SO pleased by this result, after the page after page of mind numbing slagging off of everything and everybody connected with the Club that went on before the match.  They might be playing badly.  It might not be the line-up that you'd want, but it's still our team and our Club ffs.  Enough with the character assassinations !

What did you say at half-time?

RvN: “I think the players continued what they were doing in the first half. We went 1-0 behind but we were playing well. I have said that before in previous games but today I saw a team that were 1-0 behind but weren’t affected mentally. We got the ball, kept playing, created the James Justin chance and at half-time, they players were calm, they knew the gameplan was going accordingly. We had chances and we wanted to push and start the second half well, which they went out and did extremely well.”

 

Players responded to being held accountable?

RvN: “I reacted on accountability on last week’s performance where I raised my voice to players. I’m there to hold players accountable. Today, the players reacted in a great way, playing really well on the ball. Off the ball they were really improving, our back four was helping to push the sixes in midfield and our wingers higher up. That was important today. I’m very happy with this performance.”

 

What will it do for morale?

RvN: “We enjoy this moment. We were looking for this moment. They have been training every week to show what they’re capable of. They did, but the results weren’t there. So this was a real good feeling to celebrate an away win at Spurs especially. It’s a tough place to come to get three points.”

 

Do you feel relieved?

RvN: “I believe in what we’re doing, so in that sense I’m not relieved or surprised that this team is capable of doing these things. In terms of the results, yes, after seven losses and all the work that has been put in and all the emphasis on development and good performances without points, the win was needed and very welcome.”

 

Lots of talk of crisis outside the club. Will this dispel that?

RvN: “No. It’s not going to disappear all of a sudden with a win. We are a football team. We are focused on getting better on the training pitch, doing our jobs, playing at the weekends and doing the best we can to be able to achieve our right to play in this league, which will be very tough as a promoted side, as I emphasised before. We’re not putting any energy in all the noise around us. A loss or a draw or a win will not change the environment. On the 25th of May, we want to be somewhere and that’s what we’re working for.”

Criticising football players has nothing to do with character assassination. Head over to the Spurs forum to see some proper character assassinations. Here the majority of the fans are kinda polite when criticising players.

Can't really take a great deal away from today as Spurs are as big a basket case as us, and another day they still probably score 3 or 4.

 

Really hope it doesn't paper over any cracks. We desperately need quality adding to this squad in the next week and I'm not convinced that this shape is the optimum if we fail to add reinforcements.
