I’m the exact opposite of wanting him to fail. Look throughout this thread and I’ve been praising him. My point, which you have completely missed, is loaning him out to a club like Cardiff, struggling in The Championship is no better and probably worse for his development than keeping him here. I would’ve given Alves game time at Leicester.

I actually think him having got minutes and his first goals and assists as the level we will be at could be more beneficial. Also it’s a more physically demanding league so for a youngster needing to be physically ready for the senior game, it’s good experience.

Also, despite them getting relegated, I can’t imagine the culture and environment are as toxic as ours, so I’m pleased he and Nelson have been away from that.

Difficult in a clearly shite team but also evidenced whilst he hasn't been promoted to first time yet despite the shite playing for us.

Experience is good for him, and hopefully he comes back in pre season with a positive mindset because there is clearly going to be a chance to make a name for himself.

Can people stop spouting this nonsense that the championship is more physical than the premier league? Winks who has been bullied physically every time he has played this season was one of the best midfielders in the championship, the premier league is faster, stronger and played at a higher intensity over 90 minutes. The championship is dross in comparison hence our awful season despite winning the championship.

Well said. Championship teams might prioritise physicality to compensate lack of quality but its a watered down version of the premier league in every way except VAR.

He played his first senior minutes in football at higher level than Barnes (L1), KDH (L1).

He managed a similar amount of minutes in his (639) Championship loan the Chilwell (660) did in his first and only loan which was at Championship level with a game to go.

He's scored and managed 3 assists, which will give him confidence.

He's been push out of he comfort zone, have to go to another club, dress room, which will have challenged him.

He's got nearly as many minutes at Cardiff (639) in half a season  as BCDR has in a whole season at LCFC (741).

He's played at the level we are competing at next season so will understand the league.

For me it's been a good loan.

Why couldn’t he have got experience here with us?? He’s better than Reid.

If he’d been given game time here he could’ve. My point has been throughout this thread that Alves should’ve been given way more opportunities here this season. It’s another failing of our club that whilst we are stinking the league up, and rinse and repeating non performances from Reid we have to send a creative player out to the disaster that is Cardiff City to get some experience. And what has he got from it? Dropped from the starting 11 and a relegation to League 1 on his record.

I do get your point and think others are misunderstanding what you’re trying to say.

But, we needed to see him tested in the championship. charity minutes after we’ve already been confirmed down,  with us half arsing it, would not be more beneficial than the real competitive minutes in a pressure scenario like that.

The problem for alves is that he’s stuck around to get these potential chances before and we never seem to get him any pitch time.  what we should do and what ruud will do, are very different things

That’s subjective, depends of the experience he has had, fans booing the team, experiencing relegation. Losing self belief?

it’s not like he has starred like other players we have loaned HB, KDH,

Thanks mate, appreciate a response that gets what I’m saying rather than some responses that have got loads of likes despite falsely claiming I wanted him to fail when nothing could be further from the truth. I think Alves is an absolute baller and I hope he can achieve the heights that we all expected of him before that assault at Wolves.

We need to be realistic in our expectations of him. He has been hyped (on here at least) to the extent that anything less than becoming a talisman would be a disappointment. Expectations should be tempered.

The positive is that he got plenty of games at Cardiff, and looked like he belonged at Championship level, without ever really standing out consistently. But for a first ever loan after a horrible injury, that is a relatively successful outcome. His technical ability looked above most of his peers, but seems to lack a bit of speed/acceleration to get away from his marker.

Next 2 years will be critical to his development. If we aren't going to use him, I'd rather he get another season long loan after a proper pre season, even as low as League 1. He's still so young and has played so little football that it will benefit him much more than being planted on our bench. Grealish, a player with a similar skill set and limitations did so and it did him no harm.

That's true but for me if that stops him developing then he isn't cut out for the top level. Would hope he's strong enough to deal with that and take the positives.

I apologise for making the claim. I completely misread the direction your post was coming from.

There’s just been a few posts on here making weird comments putting him down.

Also it’s a more physically demanding league...

Absolute myth.

The only thing it has in terms of demand over the Premier league is number of games. The games themselves are far more demanding in the Premier league than the championship as our last few seasons suggest.

We got all this last time we were relegated about how much more physical the championship was and yet total weaklings like Winks did fine.

Premier league players are fitter, stronger, faster. The game is quicker, more intense, more demanding.

Is the premise that the less talented players just kick the shit out of you?

Edit: seems this was remarked upon in the post following yours. But I couldn't help myself John. I was seething lad, absolutely raging I was.

Edit 2: kin hell Bradger even used Winks as the example.

Seething again.
