Anything that is better hot/melted goes on top of the spud (butter, cheese, beans etc) everything that is better cold goes next to the spud (coleslaw, tuna, salad etc).

Common knowledge really.

Cheese on potato - beans on the side.... or in the bin and go find the cheapest salad cream money can buy.

Beans on toast however - that's different....

Toast – margarine – sprinkling of grated cheese – beans (& Worcester Sauce or Hendersons and Coarse ground peppercorns) then additional cheese.

Chilli on potato cheese on top but cheese on rice and chilli on top if no potato.

Cheese and prawns in Marie Rose is where it's at when talking jackets.

People in this country will make up the most elaborate rules for serving food that sounds like something a prisoner in Venezuela would get.

Ugh, it's over boys, pack it up. The middle class have just come and gentrified the thread.

Just needs Daggers to turn up with red wine pairing suggestions and we're done.

I assume anyone that doesn't like cheese got lost here on their way to the Depression thread.

How do you live your life like that.

I like my cheese between the main course and the dessert. Not on 'potato and beans' whatever this is.

Open Potato, knob of butter and close potato back up to let it melt, then open back up and put some cheese directly on potato. Then pour beans on top then more cheese.

This is the correct answer lol

Its got to be cheese, beans and then a bit of cheese on top. A lovely, gooey, cheesy mess

Finally the correct answer I wondered wtf was going on. It’s not hard is it.

Can’t believe no one has mentioned onions.

Potato, then butter, beans, cheese, onion on top is the correct answer.

This thread is turning me into one of those insufferable Americans that posts stuff on social media about Brits still eating like there are German bombers overhead

The English cuisine is as delicate as a cornered racoon.* Yes, I'm an American.

*But the Dutch one is even worse (hard to believe, but it's true).
