Outside of Sheffield United in the past decade he has been underwhelming at best. Just doesn't seem the right fit.

Exactly this. Such a tired and lazy narrative and exactly the sort of attitude that has allowed this ineptitude to happen.

I always thought the league cup would be the pinnacle of supporting this club. I've watched us drop to league one, be stuck in the championship for years on end. Does that mean I can't call out this utterly woeful ownership group for the disconnect they've caused between the club and the fanbase?

The same people who moan that the same clubs always win everything are the ones who are happy for us to wave a white flag. Our ground has a feel of being full of people like this as well, it's why it's so tame despite the piss being taken out of them basically weekly.

Still don’t understand the hype for Rohl especially from people who are bashing Dyche (who has been more successful over a longer period).

I don’t think Rohl would be a bad appointment but I think some people seem to think he’s the next coming and might be very disappointed

successful over a longer period, huh......of course he will, hes been a manager for longer than Rohl,

if you research what rohl has done at Sheff Weds etc, they used see why people rate him,

and what is classed as successful? he kept everton up a couple of season,, did the same with Burnley before he got them all be down, sacked at both clubs, and Moyes comes in and makes everton look a different team

we need to go forward and Dyche would not be that, for numerous reasons people have said

One thing that appears to get ignored a lot is the finances behind appointments. Just because you are paying compensation doesn’t mean he’s more expensive. Within football, incomings are often viewed from a total package… initial cost, and wages across the entirety of the deal.

Let’s give an example:

Dyche will probably want around £40,000 - 50,000 a week. On a Three year contract that’ll cost the club £6,240,000 - £7,800,000 in a total package.

Rohl will likely want around £20,000 - £25,000 a week. On a three year contract that’ll cost the club £3,120,000 - £3,900,000. You then have to include compensation cost, if we going on the higher end of £2.5m, that’ll bring the total cost across 3 years to £5,600,000 - £6,400,000.

Breaking that down to yearly cost for PSR purposes, going on the higher scale of wages and compo for Rohl he would cost £2,133,000 per year.

If we compare that to the lower wage scale of £40,000 for Dyche, which would be a significant wage cut from him, that would cost the club £2,080,000 per year.

That makes a difference of £53,000 per year. The reality is, the talk of free agents being cheaper is a myth in football. Ultimately, the man who’s appointed will be the man the board thinks is best unless they appoint Kingy.

However, a fee for Rohl may not be payable over 3 years and that's where a problem comes in, especially if we are low on cash reserves as rumoured

That’s a Tier 25 source on the Wilder link, no?

Have always been told our higher-ups (along with most decision makers in English football) cannot stand him.

Also, on the posts about the NY Giants owners possible interest, I’m a longtime Giants fan and I really hope Mara won’t let a Director of Football burn him like the Giants GM did here (Saquon Barkley went on to have an incredible season and win the Super Bowl with Philadelphia, one of the Giants’ division rivals).

What if Rohl doesn’t want it, and then the club appoint someone else like a wilder or Dyche. You lot will lose the plot and not give  whoever it is a chance, just like with Cooper.

Basically a less impressive Nigel Pearson.

Like a Nigel Pearson on a serious decline - somehow poetic given our current trajectory.

Getting someone like Wilder just sets the tone for the season from the off. We all felt it when we got Cooper and it would be the exact same if we got Wilder.

It is exclusively within the gift of the fans to set this tone, either negative or positive, the appointment itself does neither.

We seem attracted to every other clubs equivalent to Pearson hoping they can do the same again here. Very short sighted.

Smith - Villa

Cooper - Forest

Wilder - Sheffield United

Wilder's record outside of Sheffield United worries me, would steer clear for that reason and his recruitment.

No chance we go for Wilder. Absolutely no chance the board could possibly be that stupid.

Right?

Dean Smith. Van Nistelrooy. Steve Cooper. Keeping Brenton who wanted to be sacked.

Harsh on Smith. I feel that he would have kept us up had he been given the two games we threw away with caretaker managers.

I genuinely think if we don't have a manager in charge by this time next week, in some ways I'd rather just have King announced. Would take him over some of the names mentioned.

If it ain't Rohl I'd be intrigued on a gamble with King.  I know there'll be a lot of flapping about his inexperience and the perception he might be "too nice" for the job, but in some ways that inexperience might work out well for the young lads in the squad.  He's not going to be coming in wanting to bring in a bunch of his former players or teammates as some managers do.  He'll unlikely have any kind of network, so again, has to stick with what he's got and expect to do the job of a head coach, rather than some of the names operate in wanting control of transfers etc.

He's a complete unknown.  It might be a disaster, it might be a massive success.  But in terms of being a disaster I think it would look like missing out on promotion, and that's it.  We won't have gone out and bought a load of players to play "the King way" only for us to be stuck with them a year from now, shafting us for years to come.  If he got a good team around him (Powell etc) although he may not be the long term solution, he might be able to do a good job.  We want to go young, developing the players, maybe keep that approach with the gaffer.  Rohl is the same age.

I appreciate it's a big gamble, but fxxk it.

If Rohl didn't want it we'd have some one in place now. There's no other reason why we'd have not appointed a manager out of work.

As a lifelong Eagles fan and Philadelphia-area resident, I’ll ignore these rumors for now, stay in my own lane, and thank the Giants for their continued ineptitude.

This Wilder rumour has come from a complete BS source, yet we have a Foxestalk meltdown in full effect?

This is the way.

Or were trying to persuade him, like they tried with Potter. Whoever it is we just need to give them a chance.

The board doesn't help the situation we've had at least 4 months since they would have known RvN wouldn't be the manager this season and yet here we are still without one.
