What’s the best plan for our squad next season?

    • Keep majority of the current squad and hope they can help get us promoted, then fix things once we're back in the Prem

    • Clear out as many senior players on high wages as possible, sell or release them. Focus on rebuilding and prioritising youth players.

    • Sell a few players, but keep some senior ones for experience. Gradually introduce more playing time for the youth.

The point is moot as the reality is we will get rid of what we can and we'll be left with what we can't.

Unfortunately Vardy, who could still do a job in certain games if used as part of the squad, will likely be one senior player to go for the simple reason that his contract is up and it's our biggest salary.

The likes of Ayew and BDCR, though? Who's paying a fee for them? We're stuck with them and we just have to hope they can offer more than they have in the Prem.

Out of the current 'first team' I think we may be left with something like this.

Stolarczyk

Ricardo/Coulibaly

Souttar/Vesty/Coady

Okoli/Nelson

Thomas/Justin

Skipp/Choudhury

Winks

Mavididi/McAteer

El Khannouss

Fatawu/ BDR

Ayew/Daka

I would like another three of four of these to leave, plus Okoli & El Khannouss probably will as well.
I haven't included the younger lads like Alves, Evans, Baybrooke but I would like them to be involved next season.

That would leave us space to bring in another 5 or 6 signings like we did in the championship last time.

It will be a mix of both. One thing is for sure - whatever we do we should absolutely win the league. Don't be taken in by this attitude of some on here that everything has to end with us plummeting further down the pyramid just because of how shit Rudkin is.

The standard of the Championship is atrocious and we are a level above anything in that division. Even with Rudkin we can get out again at the first time of asking. That doesn't paper over any cracks though and I hope we have a far worse reaction to relegation than we did last time.

In reality relegation didn't clear out nearly as much as we needed last time. This time I think it will and I don't see that as a negative. Soumare, Faes etc can just **** off. This will probably be the first summer in 5+ years where we have a genuine clean slate and room to manoeuvre. If it's more of the same from Rudkin we will just become a yo-yo club for the foreseeable but I don't see it being any worse than that.

Totally. I don't think people realise how bad the quality is. Granted, clubs around the bottom have no money and it's tough because sides like us get relegated with huge budgets but you look at Sheffield United who are going for promotion and they're far from outstanding.

Yes, while I agee that we will be no lower than say 6th come the end of next season in the Championship (and we won't "do a Luton"), then I don' think there's any guarantee at all that we will "storm it" again like last season under Enzo, in spite of selling existing players, parachute payments, etc! There's the threat of PSR related points deduction too of course while I suppose the QPR yardstick in the FA Cup is a false one (played out in dense fog that day too!) but with the players we may be able to bring in re a club our size in the Championship to (hopefully) improve matters then we certainly shouldn't be worried about League One possibility!

Sell literally everyone that doesn't want to be here or only wants to be here because of the pay that they wouldn't get a similar club.

The high earners who have proven crap at Prem level need to go. Even if we have to pay them a golden handshake to go so a pay cut elsewhere is acceptable to them. Hermansen sale should cover it.

Vesty

Faes

Soumare

Kristiansen

Coady

Daka

Ayew

BDR.

Clear the decks and start again.

It's complete pie in the sky because it will never happen with this lot, but I'd go for a nuclear overhaul. I really do think clubs are capable of doing this but ours absolutely aren't - they're generally just bad at physically getting things done.

Within reason you probably have to keep a few of them but I'd allow anyone who wanted to to go (and I would generally implement this within reason).

I'd happily have about 15-20 out, about 10-13 in and promoted a few youth players to the squad. They don't have to come in and start every week. Alves being a bit part player is absolutely no issue for me. If he becomes more key then great. Maresca had no qualms about throwing in McAteer and Wanya Marcal early doors, which impressed me. There's a bit of an expectation with these academy players that they have to become your talisman or star player. If Alves and Braybrooke became our 19th and 20th best players next season, that's absolutely fine. It beats what we usually do - pay millions to achieve this.

I'm not entirely against signing older players but it's a bit of a luxury and we don't really have that in our financial situation. Lay the foundations, buy generally younger players, almost irrelevant where they're from but make sure they're decent value for money, low risk and high upside. Similar to what Sunderland have done. Look to the lower leagues of England. Look to Scotland, France, Belgium etc... anywhere basically. There is value out there.

More than anything - adopt a policy at this club and stick to it for a number of years. This policy is to assess what a player is likely to offer in terms of squad contribution and don't pay a fee that goes over what you expect of them. Skipp for example at the price we paid should be virtually our best player. We'd have been no worse buying someone from Slovenia for about £2mil for what he's ended up contributing.

Get picky about squad value and do this until we're really able to afford these luxuries. In short - do the total opposite to this season in every way.

Ao Takanka who we was linked with last season went to Leeds for £3 million, is a perfect example.
