Here's one

How did Van Nistelrooy and Howe behave in the technical area?published at 08:01

Michael Emons
BBC Sport journalist

A graphic showing where both managers stood during the Leicester v Newcastle match. Ruud van Nistelrooy spent most of the game either patrolling the front of his technical area or sitting in the dugout. Eddie Howe by comparison, rarely sat down, but roamed the entire surface of his area.

Eddie Howe was the main figure of course, but Newcastle assistant Jason Tindall also played a part. Whenever Howe was talking to his players at a set piece or to the substitutes waiting to come on, Tindall would move into position so there was almost always one of them at the front of the area.

Howe was also in constant talks with Tindall at the back of the technical area or writing notes down in his notebook. When the second goal went in, Howe immediately called over Joelinton for a tactical chat, and he did similar with a number of other players when the third went in, despite the big lead.

Ruud van Nistelrooy had his head in his hands after the visitors scored after a couple of minutes and was noticeably getting more and more frustrated at his side's inability to keep the ball as sloppy mistakes became more frequent.

He spent most of the opening half hour on the edge of the technical area, but after Newcastle's third goal, he watched the rest of the half from his seat. He did return to the edge of the technical area for most of the second half though, with most of the home fans leaving well before the end.

See what all the other managers did

What a load of cobblers. How many times they pick their nose next

He’s probably better at that than picking a team

I remember spuds in 2016 bitching on about stats more of this better at that.

My reply then and now. Only two stats mean anything. How many you let in and how many you score.

99% possession and you could still lose

1-0

How often will that happen, do you think?

Yes, there are meaningless stats out there, but most of it is useful if you know what it means and, more importantly, what it doesn’t mean.

Claiming that statistics don’t matter in football is like the emperor in Amadeus telling Mozart “there are simply too many notes.”

Probably never. But I would guess most of our stats from 15/16 didn't suggest we would be champions by 10pts either.

Still my point stands only two matter and count.

Yes the rest help planning a strategy/game plan yes. But 15 shots on target means nothing if the keeper saves them all or blocked on the line. Then the opposition have one and it goes in.

From the article:

Quote

Over the past three days, we sent a BBC Sport journalist to all 10 Premier League games to closely watch what every manager did as the action unfolded.

They spent the matches recording data on where each boss stood, while also surveying how they interacted with those around them. We know that there are many variables that can determine how a manager reacts so measuring across a single weekend is certainly not definitive, but we were curious to see what unfolded.

You have to distinguish between using statistics for one match and over time.

If you have 15 shots on target you are 3 times as likely to score than if you only have 5 - all else being equal, ie. the same shooters, same positions etc.

I’m certain we stood out in many stats that season - for example how many shots we let the opponent take, headers won, clearances and counters.

Driving home on Monday night, I did laugh when Pipes wondered if he'd gone home!

They'd have had fun using stats to analyse Pearson's location when he was here.

All his stats would've been 0% in those matches where he sat at the top of the stand chatting to Steve Walsh....

not enough stats,:revenge: I want to know how much time each manager spent rubbing their chin, clapping their hands, drinking water, folding their arms, hands on hips, arms out protesting a referee decision, scratching their arse, picking their nose.

Also time spent celebrating goals:plancque:

Another reason I’m bored to death of PL Football, the obsession with XG/Stats, in addition to boring managers, over coached players, VAR and the ‘matchday experience’

He or she gets paid for being Statto so, unless they're chained to a screen and whipped, no, they don't have to.

I and my son thought the same at one point in the game

How about this one, probably from a Forest fan.

Wasn't it under Micky Adams where we would have made Europe if games finished after 80 mins?
