Filbert Fireworks Posted 9 August 2025 Posted 9 August 2025 He's fine for the championship he doesn't realise it but it's actually his level or warming the bench as a 4th choice in the prem. Too rash and inconsistent for a prem team. Attitude honks but he will do a job away at Wrexham on a wet winter Wednesday night.
Popular Post iancognito Posted 9 August 2025 Popular Post Posted 9 August 2025 He must be ready to sack his agent. Every time he tells him there's no bids he probably does that same look of disbelief with his arms out wide that he does after every goal he's responsible for. Says something when even the promoted clubs are happy with what they've got over him. 2 3

Gutted that I haven't seen a comparison to Soyuncu on here for a while. That's always good for a laugh.

For that to happen he needs to play and play well. So if he doesn´t play he will be desperate to leave. So leave him out of the squad - that will surely trigger action. Even though, in reality, he’s our best defender by quite some margin. 4

I'm not going into this in the transfer thread but the odd saving tackle doesn't make up for his abysmal positioning or terrible decision-making.

Watching during the pre-season made me realise he’s a frizzy head and shoulders above our other defenders, with Nelson a little behind in second. He’s also very suited to a system that likes to employ an aggressive press. 3

deep blue Posted 11 August 2025 Posted 11 August 2025 Our last 2 managers clearly commanded no respect from the players, and maybe this contributed to the bad personal qualities we saw coming out in some of them last season. Apart from Soumare, who looks to be beyond redemption, it's not unreasonable to hope that a decent manager who commands respect, has clear plans in playing style and who shows good tactical in-game decision-making, could turn round the "bad egg" attitudes and get these characters buying into his management. There are signs that Cifuentes has those qualities and is a good man manager, and he certainly seems to buy into the club and fans. He needs to be given some time to see if his positivity rubs off onto the players and we get improved performances and attitudes from them.
pkonline Posted 11 August 2025 Posted 11 August 2025 He's a very capable player at this level. With the right manager and environment, I don't see why he can't gain the support back from some of the fans and have a decent season. 1

Some people just seem to think he can continue to turn up put in the odd good performance, drop a calamity a game and that's fine. This joker needs to know the fans have had enough and **** off. 1

dbtcity Posted 11 August 2025 Posted 11 August 2025 He’s such an unlikeable rat but at the same time he’s probably the best cb/defender on our books (really really low bar)

Other than having big floppy hair and throwing his arms around after we concede (not sure why this is specifically a problem?) what has Faes actually done wrong? By all means people can have an opinion on whether he's good enough or not (note that we've had plenty of other average/poor players in recent years too), but I'm not sure what he has specifically done on or off the pitch to get the reputation he has? 3

I actually think he *is* good enough, at least for this season. He's clearly a net negative to have around the place though, at the very least: Bollocks fellow defenders after conceding goals/chances, including youngsters, often when he's culpable Twerked for a move on at least one occasion Given shit to the fans after scoring twice that I can remember, probably more (I don't mind this, he's human and entitled to give it back, but it doesn't help the relationship between club and fans overall) ... and he's not *so* good that he can do all this and get away with it Edited 11 August 2025 by fuzzymizzit
Philkeavo Posted 11 August 2025 Posted 11 August 2025 I think if he could just focus for 90 mins on the game, just do his job and take some f**king responsibility for his errors. This is what grates me, it is when he makes a mistake (which is normal, we’re all human) he just never takes responsibility, we get amateur drama histrionics, finger pointing and arms thrown aloft. Own them Wout and you might be shown a little more respect. 1

ACF Posted 12 August 2025 Posted 12 August 2025 You'd think the penny would drop with him a bit. He might not want to be here, but clearly nobody else wants him.
pkonline Posted 12 August 2025 Posted 12 August 2025 Interestingly Faes when he was younger was always seen as a good head and had leadership qualities. Perhaps its the sign of the situation at the club, on and off the pitch, that he makes these errors of judgment. No matter how much fans give you stick, home or away ones, there is a clear line about not reacting to it. It never helps the situation and just causes as escalation next time.
JimJams Posted 12 August 2025 Posted 12 August 2025 Nah, bollocks. Granit Xhaka did worse at Arsenal and won fans over before leaving. 2
Popular Post Big_Nige Posted 12 August 2025 Popular Post Posted 12 August 2025 The problem with Faes, Vestergaard, Soumare and Daka is that, on the pitch at least, they are synonymous with everything that has gone wrong over the last 3 years. That won’t change, it doesn’t matter how many times you tell people Vestergaard didn’t play a single league minute during our first relegation season, some folk will always associate him with it, and believe he is single handily responsible. That’s not gonna change On Sunday, in the row in front, an angry man’s vein in his neck was bulging every time Vestergaard got the ball. When he pinged that shot a mile over the bar I thought he was gonna have a heart attack. His hatrid of him was irrational. That’s the same issue some fans have with Faes. His hair, his own goals, the way he carries himself on the pitch, it’s like he’s the anti-christ for some reason Do I rate Faes, as a solid defender, not particularly. He's too error prone and is prone to switching off. The only bloke I’ve ever seen make himself smaller when trying to block a shot, but for a possession heavy team, especially at this level, I actually think he’s very good, not just because he’s comfortable on the ball, but he presses up the pitch and it’s no shock that his introduction for Okoli helped us pin Shef Wed in even deeper It’s heart and head stuff. For the long term success of this club we obviously need to look to the likes of Nelson and develop homegrown players, but we can’t overlook the short term gain of what promotion means to this club. All our centrebacks will need to play a part this season, and if Faes is still here in September then he’ll play a key role this season like him or not 6

Exactly, really hope we get rid of every player that wants out, especially anyone on big money. So many of the current squad have been involved in 1 or both hideous relegations, would have no issues in seeing the back of Faes, VK, Vesty, Soumare, Winks, Daka and anyone who wants to get out, drain the swamp and start again with a nucleus of young players and good pro’s who are 100% committed to the club. 2
