Manchester United make surprise offer for Leicester City sensation Jake Evans
written by Vishal Singh 05/05/2025

Manchester United battle Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Leicester City’s Jake Evans, as per reports.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester are heading to the Championship after a dreadful season in England’s top flight. However, the emergence of several young talents is being seen as a major positive and could help the Foxes return back to the Premier League quickly.

20-year-old attacking midfielder Bilal El Khannouss, who joined Leicester last summer, has earned plenty of plaudits for his strong presence in and out of possession.

The likes of Jeremy Monga and Jake Evans have also caught the attention of fans and pundits alike after making their senior debuts in the second half of the campaign.

Having said that, it is going to be very difficult for Leicester to keep hold of their exciting prospects, as a number of Premier League clubs are preparing to take advantage of their situation. Evans, in particular, has landed on United’s radar, as per a report in Spain.

According to Fichajes, United are looking to sign the 16-year-old prodigy this summer.

It is claimed that the Red Devils have offered around €15 million (£12.78m) for the England U16 international.

Evans is capable of playing all across the front line but he mainly thrives as a striker or a right-winger.

He has scored an impressive 10 goals in 14 Premier League 2 appearances this term, leading to suggestions that he could become heir to Jamie Vardy’s throne at King Power Stadium.

It is understood that ex-United striker Van Nistelrooy has “complete confidence” in Evans’ abilities and believes the starlet with immense potential could spearhead Leicester’s attack in the future.

It is suggested that United face competition from Spurs for the youngster’s services. The North Londoners are also prepared to make a significant offer to win the race for the Leicester wonderkid.

Meanwhile, United are also going head-to-head with Chelsea for Blackburn Rovers gem Igor Tyjon but the Mancunians have already seen their opening bid turned down by the Championship side.

Don't think they have to pay, given that he has not signed professional contract. ?Usually goes to arbitration and we would get pennies!

Surely they wouldn't pay that much?

It makes no sense because they could just take him and pay a lot less through arbitration

Presumably if there's any truth in the figure it's because they want it done quickly before any other potential suitors come sniffing about.

If.

For both Monga and Evans, it suits teams to offer over the odds now and that can do two things- it stops them being surprised buy how much the tribunal can set their value especially considering how they have technically both played in the prem already…

but also offering a certain amount now mean they can know exactly how much they would be paying for PSR reasons, and  can help them budget accordingly and not be billed a huge amount the season after that they haven’t budgeted for because they didn’t know what that amount would be..

Just as the club have been lax at selling certain players at the right time before they hang on, see their contracts out and leave for nothing, we now seem unable to pick out our own best young talent and give them a contract before they too leave for nothing also! Add that to the inability to find young players suitable loans for experience at a younger age to develop them and it's no wonder the club have financial troubles. If he can't see this Top must be a right thick pudding!

Couldn't disagree more if I tried.

12 mill would be insane business for a club like ours. Potential yes but we need hard reddies

Danger with this current Recruitment Team / DofF is we spaff the 12m on players with less of a ceiling on more wages than the young lad.

Obviously we need to raise funds, but I would rather prioritise sales we know are going Mads, Faes and likes of Skippy, Coady, Vestergaard, Ayew, Daka before emerging talents like Evans, Monga.

For a club like ours? What we going to do with £12m? What we actually need to to create £40-50m players again. It's an art to know when to flip and for an untested 16 year old on thr face of it it would be a big fee but he's the youngest top scorer in the PL2, surpassing Ethan Nwaneri who wouldn't go for anything less than £50m if he were to be available.

There's several players we ought to be able to generate £12m for but sadly we have the business acumen of a grey seal.

Yes we need money now, but we need a long term vision too.  There are, without exaggeration, 10 players I would rather see leave before we start getting rid of our promising academy products.   Sell first team dead weights first - save on wages.

It's promising if we're getting genuine offers and interest in our young players.  It means we're producing results.  However we either need to cash in or get them under contract because the murky middle ground there is the Nyoni situation which makes it all largely redundant.

And the more young lads we can keep a hold of that go on to do well, will make exponential improvements to our future ability to keep a hold of and nurture young talent, (as well as nick it from other clubs).

I'd rather we kept our best players and suffered any points deduction. I'm not convinced we'd reap enough ££s to avoid punishment anyway. Even if we did with such a weakened team and no money to recruit we're more likely to get relegated again than if we keep the best and take the points deduction.

Keeping the best means any rebuild starts on proper foundations. Of course it needs to be coupled with a new DoF and manager.

Nothing but negativity, might as well add to it. Clubs will see this and take advantage. I would be very surprised if Evans or Monga end up signing a professional contract with us. Club is a joke, get out why you can.

If it's genuinely true someone just made a bid for McAteer for 10m, then 12m for a promising teenager was a much higher ceiling would be daft.

The fear for me is our board see this as an opportunity to reduce our PSR position without getting rid of an established 1st team player. Honestly I can see Top and Rudkin seeing this as a great chance to justify the benefits of the academy and it being used to salvage our perilous finances as a result of buying absolute muck.
