He said their form in the last month of the season was relegation form. He went to the Chelsea game and was really angry. He said they should have just gone for it becauase if they won, they could have gone up to 5th and if they lost, they would have still finished where they did anyway so had nothing to lose, but they sat back and let Chelsea play around them. I really do think they've peaked and will finish lower mid next season, especially if they replace Elanga and MGW with inferior players. I've got £20 on 49/1 - us to go up, them to go down 😂 7

I'm quite relaxed about them this season - last season was a massive chance spurned. Their fans won't realise this yet as they will make the mistake the majority make of assuming incremental upwards movement is inevitable. Those chances do not come around often though and they ultimately secured only Conference League football (of which they've even managed to luck it by bumping up a competition) and a semi final of the FA Cup. They had essentially our 2019/20 season with more margin for error and ultimately a worse team, and they have done the equivalent of selling Maddison and Barnes already. I don't think they fumble on quite the level we do and go down but I can just see Marinakis thinking their drop off is a disgrace and Nuno being under pressure quite early on. I definitely think they've peaked. 1

Grebfromgrebland Posted 21 July 2025 Posted 21 July 2025 We desperately need some new players because right now we have a team of losers with a pretty bad mentality and that will rub off on the youngsters that we're trying to bring through. I beginning to think that we should just cancel the contracts (by mutual agreement this will cost obvs) of players with no resell value (ie no one wants to buy them) and who aren't going to play and just get their sorry asses out of the club. That way we can fill some squad places and stop paying those wages. 3

I think we/he needs to quickly get sorted on who he wants and who he doesn't and tell them to find new clubs. Enzo did that and I think it helped us start well. I think we're playing catch up, I'd tell Coady, Faes, Soumare, Reid, Justin, Ndidi and possibly a few others they have no futures here. 4

They are holding all the cards!
JimJams Posted 21 July 2025 Posted 21 July 2025 They don't need a sweetener if you've paid the contract. And if you do pay the contract, given we hold their registration we then hold the cards if they want to move.

You come to me going I want me gone, I'm going to make you pay though the nose to get rid of me, that's exactly what there agents will do. They go, but on there terms, you will not save a penny on wages. Edited 21 July 2025 by coolhandfox
JimJams Posted 21 July 2025 Posted 21 July 2025 Well the most they get is the remainder of their contract. There's nothing in addition to that. No sweetener. And like I say, we'd still hold their registration so we could basically pay them and prevent them going elsewhere. So then comes a possible compromise. Which again, is the loan market. Someone will at least offer something, so there's no reason to pay up/cancel contracts when there will always be somebody willing to take them on, even if they only want to pay 20% of their wages.
