Rob Tanner has published an article this morning in which he claims we may not know the outcome of the PSR charge for 23/24 until November—and that's before any appeal process. He also speculated that the club may be waiting until the new financial year (ie, 1 July) before appointing a new manager for PSR reasons—a possibility that has been openly discussed on here but not so much in the media until now.

This is the problem with all the rule and regulations with PSR, everything takes too long, leaves uncertainty.

I thought that could be the case in terms of a manager,  but things could be all set up even if not announced. But it doesn't help the fans at all. Not that we matter do we?

Lets just hope and pray that they'll have done all the legwork already then, including discussing targets for the new bloke rather than actually getting a shift on when July 1st hits.

I'd like to think they'll have gone even further having agreed in principle on a manager and sorting the players out without publishing.

Given how difficult we find it to sell players it should be noted that the window closes 10-16 June whilst the club word cup is ongoing.

The fullback options are excellent at championship level. 3 of the 4 have performed at PL level, if we assume that Thomas carries on where he left off.

Coulibaly is an unknown and we can throw Choudhury and Aluko into the mix. That's more than enough talent for this level.

So Justin 'performed' at PL level, in that case we should have kept Ward as he's also 'performed' at PL level.

Performed meaning a precursor for performing adequately as i'm sure you are aware.

I think its safe you say you disagree with my opinion and you believe the full backs are average/poor/total guff/not quite excellent but certainly rather good* (*delete as appropriate).

Its not an area that I personally would be focusing our limited budgets on though.

There was nothing adequate about JJ this season. He wasn’t even milquetoast but a genuine liability at the back and a hindrance to any almost every attack he started off.

I agree with you. He is incapable of playing that weird winger/wingback/fullback position that Cooper and RVN favour. I'm not sure that there are many players in the world that could play it without being out of position constantly.

He looked much better towards the end of the season when played as a conventional fullback IMO.

I’ve seen JJ enough times over several managers to come to my own conclusion that he is shit and brain dead at the basics.

The negativity isn’t just about being out of position.  It’s about running forward with the ball, no one in front to beat, stopping and passing backwards. JJ’s inner monologue could be a loop of “stop the ball, pass back”

No convincing and copium can make me believe that most of our squad aren’t shit at their job.

Fair enough. I'm not trying to convince you and am happy to accept that is your opinion. I also agree that JJ is poor going forward as I have already stated.

Off the field the club is a shambles. With a decent manager i'm reasonably optimistic with our chances on the field.

Has anyone else seen this?

Look at Leicesters net spend compared to the rest of the premier league over the last 5 years.

How can we even be close to breaching ever.

Need to factor in wages as transfer fees are only half of the story

Which just shows the absolutely staggering wages and income lost from players running their contracts down / inability to sell such players.

But even still including the huge wages which they were and still are how are we the only ones getting punished when forest for example is 10Xs higher than ours

Because we’re paying Doris £70,000 bags a week so she doesn’t go to Man City.

This gets asked on here a lot, the problem wit these tables they just look at transfer spend, we spend far too much no wages.

Salaries have been the real problem, with the club consistently running the seventh-highest wage bill in the Premier League. The result was losses of £92.5m in 2021-22 and £89.7m in 2022-23. The wages-to-turnover ratio was running at 116%, far higher than the two teams who have been punished with points deductions for PSR breaches, Nottingham Forest (94%) and Everton (92%).

We've been paying top 6 wages since we won the league anyone could see that was unsustainable as it would rely on Champion's League every year which is totally unrealistic for a club with our revenue and pull. You only have to look back at the players we signed following our league win, mostly not top ranked, top 6 players and not profitable for resale.

Illusions of grandeur by Top and the Board..

So illogical to sell players for 40/50m and almost break even on fees then have players in the squad on such massive wages, surely if we learn anything for this summer it’ll be to clear out the big wages and reduce the limit of what we offer going forward

I've said it before but those who were in charge of the wage structure at the club should have been done for negligence. In the 22/23 season our average wage was £90k, for every £1 we were bringing in, we were spending about £1.20 just on wages. It was shocking. The fact nobody seems to have been held accountable for this is where my anger at the club lies. I can forgive poor management choices and poor recruitment because that happens at every club, but the incompetence that was shown was beyond belief and we're still feeling the consequences now.

In 22/23 we'd just won the FA Cup a year before, reached the semi finals of the Europa Conference League, and spent 2 seasons mostly in the Top 3 and competing for a Champions League place.

The wages we were paying had been agreed and signed off in that context between 2019-2022, at a time we were growing, proving we were capable of achieving our ambitions and within a completely different set of financial rules. Revenue was down because of COVID and failure to qualify for the Champions League (and because the Premier League directly controls the revenue of smaller clubs).

For context Brentford have been paying Mbeumo less than we were paying Danny Ward.

Our top earners should be on around £50k max.

Signed in 2022 when they’d retained their PL status after promotion.  A very different profile to us at the time Danny ward signed his extension.

we tried to be something we weren’t and came unstuck

villa and forest could  end up in our position in a couple of seasons if they have a shocker (more difficult now with the clubs being promoted being so weak)

Brentford's average wage is probably now around 60k whereas when they signed mbuemo he was probs a v high earner @ 50k
