Would Sean Dyche please stand up.

I’d take him any day over this absolute clown. I just want to see a bit of pride in playing for this club. The player that player the Martin way are weak mentality, if they were strong they would be here

That is one of the most dreadful passages of football I've ever seen. Every time they got near an opposing player, they shat themselves and passed it backwards. Over 50 passes doing nothing, just to then show it could be done in 3 or 4 if they actually attacked.

They should be embarrassed by that record - not celebrating it.

How our board could think our fans want that being drilled into our players shows how out of touch they continue to be.

I know it’s MK dons but some of that ‘passing’ barely constitutes a pass

I’m very much looking forward to Patson Daka sticking the ball in the net after 56 passes.

We have already had one of those

Look at how deep Rotherham are as well throughout that - that’s how most teams will try to do us next season. Having a style that beats that is important.

Think this is something people forget.  We love counter attacking football.  It's what brought us our greatest success, but you can't do that if teams are happy to come and sit on a 0-0.  And many will.  Trouble is the possession stuff gets you found out when you step up to technically better players who can just do the same thing as you but better.

For me, athletic, high energy, hard pressing works at both levels. Well enough anyway.  Win the ball quickly, use it quickly.  Not playing it round looking to create gaps for 10 minutes.  The higher up you win the ball the less you have to do to get an effort on goal.  That can then be adapted when you're up against better players.

This is why RM is the number one candidate for our board - like @kingfox states this is enzo ball on steroids 😂

I agree with everything you said there. I think trying to combining the two styles (not going extreme either way) is the best way to get success in the Championship - Leeds did that well this season, I think Farke having an extra year has helped him to coach that.

Pearson did it with us as well after our play-off defeat at Watford and we won the league, where some games we’d be super aggressive with Dyer and Vardy then in others we’d need Knockaert and Mahrez to be a bit cuter.

I still cannot fathom how the board think he is the right man. The football style is 💩 to watch, he struggled with Southampton, and has done nothing of note before them in management.

My mind is blown

Arguably more experienced as a manager than Russell Martin lol

Good succession planning I guess.

The sad thing is mate, they’ve probably just looked at the situation and thought, let’s go with Russell Martin just because that style worked last time with Maresca.

But you’ve hit the nail on the head, if he does get appointed, then they are out of touch and haven’t read the room.

I’m a nerd when it comes to statistics, and when looking at certain graphs, it clearly shows a shift in style of play for Premier League teams, yet when it comes to Leicester, we’re not getting on trend imo.

But numerous top end Championship teams are persisting with a slow & intricate style. Leeds and Burnley have done it, while in 23/24 of course Leicester and Southampton did it, slightly more extremely.

That style can get you out the Championship though, but recent history suggests that it won’t keep you in the Premier League.

There’s numerous elements why the same three teams that went up, went straight back down again two seasons running, but in Leicester, Burnley and Southampton’s case, not getting on trend has a big deal to do with it imo.

Appointing Russell Martin could easily be the right trend for the Championship, but if he doesn’t evolve himself, he definitely won’t be the right trend in the Premier League.

Still the most likely outcome for me. Will get us promoted his way, but barely improve on his Southampton in the Premier League. Promoted teams just do not have the funds or pulling power to attract the type of players needed to make this way successful against the established teams.

Do you think Dyche would have a better crack at promotion and staying up doing it his way? Weirdly, I think Martin would fair slightly better in the Championship with us, but Dyche would likely give us a more realistic chance of staying up. Two complete opposites and both painful from a fan's perspective.

Most important thing for me, is to get back to the Premier League at the first time of asking. We can then make changes in an attempt to stay up. We have to be there to be able to give us that chance again though, and the financial incentive to bounce straight back is huge.

The annoying thing about Russell Martin, his Southampton team actually ranked 1st in pressing and shots from high turnovers in the Championship.

His out of possession style actually ticks those boxes.

But then you come to his in possession style…💩

Christ, I didn't even know he'd been the manager for that franchise rabble.

As if I didn't want him at the club already, being involved with the fakes is a black mark against the judgement of any manager.

I think just having the best players played a part in us winning games. Rather than an obsession with safety first 5 yard passes.

A little left field i know

A little left field i know

Step 1: get best players

Step 2: get it forward

Step 3: get promoted
