Chelsea must have paid out more on getting rid of managers than buying players now.

Costs more to sack him than it does to buy Sheff Weds...

Sacking Maresca was an absolute brain dead decision from a ridiculous scummy club.

I wasn’t sure if he walked but like with my lot the replacement was found to be well out of his depth .

Nice pay off though.

Apparently they had a break clause in the contract so he won't be getting the full 5+ years, it's a settlement.

Still.. will be good money for 3 months work.

The way these Man City players act is infuriating. Several times they have chances inside the box to shoot and they choose to pass around without a reason. I'm not even a Man City fan and this is beyond frustrating to watch.

Lampard would be nuts to go to Chelsea.

They are a basket case and even a magician couldn't fix them.

Lampard seems emotionally intelligent enough to know that he would go from revered club legend to hate figure if he went there as things stand.

Still, it would leave Cov in a bit of a pickle.

I've once seen a goldfish which was more intelligent emotionally than Lampard.

They wouldn't hate him – he's already had a pretty disastrous caretaker spell there under BlueCo and is still adored by their fanbase.

Burnley have been awful, they can’t string two passes together and yet this might only finish 1-0.

Man C didn't have to do much to hold on - they seemed to be in second gear.

Good point for Leeds - probably sees them safe but Bournemouth will be frustrated by VAR.

I concede that Leicester fans don't "hate" Andy King, who is still remembered as a playing hero, but I'd think only a small minority would want him anyway near the manager's job again.

Lampard was, as you say, a caretaker rather than the permanent boss, Chelsea had a transfer embargo and he was forced to play the kids, so he was cut a good bit of slack.

I think Chelsea are in a worse, more dysfunctional place than in Lampard's previous spell as stand in manager there, and a second spell that went badly could be a career killer with a real risk it would damage his standing with their fans.

They didn't have a transfer embargo in his last spell, they'd spent loads under new ownership – this was the arse end of 2023. I just think if he's still well regarded after his last stint there, there's no way their fans would ever "hate" him. I also disagree re: Chelsea being in a worse spot, they weren't a particularly well oiled or functional machine then either, he was their third manager of the season and they finished the season in 12th.

Having looked it up, I'd conflated his longer spell 2019 to 2021, during which there was a transfer embargo, with his shorter stint for a couple of months in 2023, so I stand corrected.

I still maintain that the job is potential poison to his career - Chelsea aren't in a fantastic place just now, either.

It's a balance between thinking fair play for showing to loyalty to a manager but at the same time, have they even tried to stay up?

Scott Parker truly the 'Robert Earnshaw' of managers.

Wildly good at getting teams up, a successful championship manager. Just can't do it in the Prem.

You'd back them to roll through the league next year if they keep him.

Depends. He has a lot of personal history with them.

Much like Rob Edwards was nuts to come to Wolves from Boro, his playing history with the club meant it was his dream to manage us full time and one he couldn't turn down when offered.
