Yes I have reason to discredit the figures and yes I have discredited the figures of whichever party I vote for.

Epstein doesn't have an effect on the economy or you and I, is it a non issue too?

Mandelson isn't Epstein. He just knew him, fell for him, maybe believed him. That's literally all that's happened.

Thats not my point CF, my point is directed at the hypocrisy our politicians show, and what your saying our politicians are blatantly lying out of there backsides.

To be clear Rachel Reeves, last month took credit for the interest rate drop and in credit lowering inflation....'my policies are showing that the economy is improving and lowering inflation, allowing the BOE reducing interest rates which will help many households.

Where is the witch today???

Oh I see.

Yeah fair enough.

Tbh I'll go back to something over said before which is that most things are the fault of social media and 24/7 news.

There's a constant need cycle regurgitating news, or pure opinion on some channels, and so it's almost like a pressure to constantly have an answer to everything immediately.

I hate kneejerk politics but we've created a world where no politician can win.

In reality it takes around 18 months for most policies to actually come into being and bear any fruit. Labour haven't even been in 18 months but are having to scramble around because they've been attacked basically from day 1 with zero chance to actually do anything first.

And the same is true for other parties also. We expect an instant answer, when they do change policy we don't wait to see if it works, then accuse them of lying before the policy has even come into effect.

Totally hate politicians of all flavour.  I think if Labour can try and be abit more humble, peeps might actually give them.some.slack.

Is a very good read, though.

Well then I simply must insist that everybody reads it twice. Come on folks, chop chop.

Did you listen to the last episode of The Rest is Politics US? I would guess she wrote it either after that or around the time that was recorded as the article expands on that conversation.

I really thought The Mooch was on to something when he said we perhaps need to stop thinking about things from a right/left perspective which seems to get ever more extreme largely due to social media algorithms that just push people apart

I'll have to check that out.

WRT the bolded, I couldn't agree more. The divide now isn't left/right, it's between those who actually want a future for all of our civilisation and our species, and those who don't (and those who just want a future for their favoured demographic fall into the latter category by default).

And those, no matter how people try not to see it, really are the stakes. The last time I checked, survival wasn't really a political-compass-sensitive matter.

In other news Melania Trump is the ultimate cougar, she needs to make an appearance in birds you fancy off the telly thread, instead of Greta Thunberg

Melania is a stepford wife  full of botox, if that's your thing go for it.

But it can be! That's one of the things that has turned my brain inside out especially since the pandemic is how literally ANYTHING can be turned into a culture war.

And these are wars that cannot be won. What does victory look like? If everything is split down the middle it's not like the other side just evaporate into the ether.

It's so exhausting and destructive as well, isn't it? And such an enormous waste of energy and time - imagine if that were channeled into something constructive

100%. Division is just short term jubilation for one side, but a  long term problem for both.

Exactly so.

And the truth is that there are no winners of such a conflict. Everyone loses.

It's so deeply frustrating.

Also how do people feel about this Digital ID that is being proposed ?

Am not sure what the point of it is really, as there are already other various ID operations in-place.

One of the big reasons this migrant situation is still happening IMO, so people will be less resistant to it IMO.

Worth a read if you're still prepared to digest the written word, from a BBC journalist of all people:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c78n0e83ye0o

Pretty fair analysis.

Although I'd wager the most amount of domestic terrorism and violent attacks in the US in recent years comes from the left, liberal side of the political spectrum. And from foreigners (cartels/muslims).

Up until 2018, right-wing extremism dominated:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9335287/

Also, there have been plenty of attacks in the US carried out by transgender people in recent weeks and months.

I'd say a lot of it has to do with mental issues and indoctrination by social media, growing up living in a bubble, the lack of parenting as well as the lack of political discourse.

And the social isolation during the pandemic made things even worse.

Just my two cents, though.

To add to the discussion above, if anyone wants any hints about where the US is headed in terms of social policy, take a look at what Stephen Miller is saying and doing.

It's his playbook, and so far it's being followed almost line for line.

Hate it, it’s a journey towards a Chinese style social credit system.
