Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if this was satire and not 100% genuine?

But it is, and enough Americans voted for it. Twice, the second after a coup attempt and two impeachment hearings.

Yes. Trying to understand what was going through his voters mind even if from a purely US domestic view is completely baffling. Would be interesting to hear more from the opposite view of US public and leaders over this Greenland business. Wonder what US military think of it all.  Trump reminds me of a lesser Stalin when he culled anyone he suspected of not being 100% loyal. Of course Stalin bumped them off while Trump sacks or tries to lock up

He’s a very unwell man. Thankfully he seems to respect China and Russia, or else I’d actually be terrified we won’t make it through these next 3 years. I cannot see him not having a severe medical event at some point soon.

It's all very baffling and all very unpredictable in terms of actual outcomes right now.

Which, given the levels of consequence being dealt with, is a bit scary.

So, because he didn't win the Nobel Peace Prize, he doesn't need to be a peacemaker anymore. So, he was only doing it to get an accolade, by his own admission. Should block him from ever recieving the award

Trump links Greenland dispute to not getting Nobel Peace Prize, in letter to Norway's PM - BBC News

This paragraph is comedy cold ...

"Considering your Country (Norway) decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper' for the US"

They should create an opposite award to the Peace Prize, like the Ignobel Prize for science.

I’m pretty sure the guy playing our simulation world just got bored and decided to make an 8 year old into the most powerful man on earth as a funny joke to see what happens.

The world atm feels a bit like when you were bored so you’d take the ladder away from the swimming pool while your sims were swimming around in it.

Let's be honest he would just remove the stars and put a golden picture of his face there instead.

As are the people on social media trying to claim he's playing '3D Chess' with NATO

Difficult to admit you've been duped. Also comforting to think that I suppose.

I remember an old Hardcore History podcast from the pre-2016 populist era where Dan Carlin was wondering whether the reason people liked to believe conspiracy theories is it is more comforting and conversely makes the world feel safer if you think there’s some secret at the top planning it all rather than it’s all just random chaos’s that could change tomorrow.

It was in reference to the assassination of JFK and saying for a lot of people he thought thinking it was a planned conspiracy of high up people from the shadows is more comforting and weirdly feels safer than just one random nutter with a gun can just completely change the direction of the world in a few seconds like that.

I think this “Trump is playing 4d chess” stuff is much more comforting and makes people feel safer to think there’s genuinely planning behind the world. Rather than the scarier and much more chaotic alternative that it genuinely is just an 8 year old child - but instead of crying that hes not allowed sweets before bedtime, he’s smashing up the world order and an 80 year alliance apart just because he didn’t get a meaningless prize that its clear to most people would’ve been a farce if he’d won it.

Time to cut USA adrift. There's not much they have that Europe needs. I honestly think that if tariffs were matched for tariffs, this increasing the prices of a lot of stuff, the support Don's got will start to erode steadily away.

It'll be interesting wiIth the Tariffs.I used to work in the Aerospace industry and most of the Bolt's and engine part's went to the American Millitary and they are not the sort of thing they can go anywhere else for.....i think Trump hasn't really thought this through!

The reference to the JFK assassination is interesting. I was 7 when that happened. I've heard the belief that some people find the conspiracy idea somehow comforting or believable. I've always taken the opposite view that a lone nut (Oswald) was of course tragic but less worrying than a high level conspiracy.

Does get rather tiresome when the world refuses to be anything other than be constantly exciting.

Daft old man wants medals, legacy and a stairway to heaven. You better hope there is no hell Don.

At this point who is he talking too? The 30% (??) of the US population who are Maga?

Hopefully he’ll soon be safely in the arms of his maker - with Satan’s red hot poker sticking up his arse

The same lone nut that the CIA was closely monitoring for months before the assassination and who lied about ever doing that for decades before, and who were caught out last year. Yea, must be a tin foil hat nutter to believe anything other than the official narrative there.

But that just won’t happen in reality - a total boycott of the US? Not a prayer

If Trump does what he says he’ll do and adds initially 10% tariffs upping it to 25% later, there won’t be much choice, as goods from the UK, etc won’t be able to compete and exports to the US will dry up anyway.

Appeasement won’t work with Trump. He’s a bully and will always come back for more. Give him your lunch money and he’ll be back tomorrow for your trainers and phone.

Canada has the right idea. The rest of the democratic world needs to say whatever, flatter him, etc, but work as rapidly as possible to increase trade between themselves and isolate the US, at some stage imposing reciprocal tariffs. Increasingly, if we have to deal with autocracies, China is looking like a much more pragmatic, technocratic, stable and reliable trading partner.
