But why should the BBC hide someone's medical condition? Why can't we expect the 'uninformed majority' to inform themselves better instead, and call them out for their intolerance and ignorance to something someone has absolutely no control over?

They aren't hiding his medical condition.

I'm not sure if you watched the broadcast but they repeatedly referred to his condition and you could repeatedly hear him shout.

Also, the film that was made about his life received three awards and much was made about how great of a story it is.

But they didn't need to air him screaming that word and were right to apologise for failing to do so.

If you honestly don't think there's anything wrong with that word then you need to educate yourself.

He has ****ing Tourettes lol

I feel a bit like I'm going insane here but yes obviously it does.

So why are you against them bleeping or muting the broadcast for the split second he uses that word?

to be honest idgas and if they'd bleeped it then fine. I just don't think it's a problem keeping it in considering he has tourettes and saying that it should've been edited 'for his own safety' is a bit disturbing imo.

We're not going to agree - you think certain words are always offensive no matter the context, I don't.

He's being abused left and right on social media for it.

Why does it disturb you that I would want to see a disabled man (and other Tourrettes sufferers who are witnessing the abuse) be protected from that?

It disturbs me that it needed to have been done.

In my ignorance, I assumed that to use the word, he’d have to be familiar with it.  Almost as if someone with Tourette’s often can’t stop themselves saying what they’re seeing ms using language they’d usually not. .

however, I’ve read stuff from sufferers which contradicts that.  A connected condition where the sufferer often finds the most offensive thing they can say and out it comes.

I think they probably should have just edited that bit of the broadcast and I don't really see what the benefits are of it not having been cut. Must have been a pretty awful experience for all three of Jordan, Lindo and Davidson.

Most sensible post. Nothing to add to this.

I hope Mr. Mountbatten-Windsor gets what he deserves. However, on this occasion, isn't every penny the royals get funded by the tax payer in anycase?

I speak, as someone who is not anti-monarchy .

No, they receive a Sovereign Grant, which is tax payer funded for official duties and the upkeep of official residences. The rest is from private wealth or investments and Duchy estate income i.e The Prince of Wales runs the Duchy of Cornwall.
