Boat crossings down 42% this year on the same period last year.

Weather be a factor in that but the Times article reporting a number of other reasons too

Labour’s communications department has to be the worst ever
Imagine if Labour shared daily good news stories like this as a way of fighting back at the Reform hatred, maybe it would shut them up a bit and people could start talking about other things like the economy.

This seems like it should be illegal but I don’t know why? It’s like a low key form of manipulation/coercion?

I’ve just looked at this and it feel so wrong.

This is straight out of the Trump playbook!

When will this form of politics crash and burn, so we can go back to sensible people attempting to run the world.

It's an interesting play.  Feels dodgy, but picks up on the point that a lot of people support policies which don't have any cost or impact to them personally, while dismissing the concerns of people who actually are impacted in their day to day lives.  I would prefer people to avoid voting green because they have stupid policies and their leader is a ****wit, and I am confident those who feel they might vote Green are not going to switch to Reform, so this is really a PR stunt.

It's "if you want a n***** for a neighbour, vote Labour" for the modern era, and should be treated, both now and by history, with the same contempt. Nothing more.

In short, yes, crash and burn. Hopefully the midterm results will be reflective of it.

That's a bit of a leap.

For clarity that was 1964

there was a lot going on in the sixties that was horrendous

the reform policy is to deport all illegal migrants.  they’re just putting some flesh on the bones by stating that all places being used to house these people will be sealed so that they cannot leave and enter local communities.  That plays well with their base.

that sixties phrase is so dreadful - will we see a plan to hold and deport all illegals in the same way in 2088 ??

For me, the issue is the idea of ‘punishment’ for those that support a party that has opposing political views. So maybe this one isn’t the worst policy but then what if reform  say, if we win power and you don’t for us, we’ll just remove all central funding to your council areas at let you rot.

Id like to see them try it on Leicester, I doubt we would notice the difference.

It's a soundbite where it infers that if you vote a particular way, you get an "undesirable", "inferior" (again, not stated directly but inferred) bloc of people who all have the same moral values (or lack thereof) in "your" community.

Not so much of a leap IMO.

Yes. And look how far our species has come along (or not) when over 60 years later apparently demonising a bloc of people still is a viable political strategy that is attempted.

Same principle though, right?

Vote X, get Y, in very sinister terms?

Really doesn't seem much of a leap tbh.

Just standard Nigel Trumpian politics that won't actually do anything but creates some PR for them.

Not sure why people keep falling for the political elite populism we've had for the last 10+ years as it  fails every time

Surely nobody with even an ounce of decency will vote for this? Citizens of the UK don't want this for people do they, locking them up?

You'd be surprised.

Not related to the content of Zia's post, but I saw an ex-colleague of mine post something on Facebook the other day.

It consisted of a story about Farage unselfishly helping a child suffering from cancer, seemingly with no fanfare, photo ops, journos etc. The story was accompanied by two pictures. Of different children...

Aside from that, there was also a very dodgy url in the post.

Someone posted on it saying 'it's clearly a fake story that never happened...'

My ex-colleague, ended up doubling down by saying 'well, one can only hope there's a shred of truth in it' lol lol

They're ****ing stupid falling for it. And yes, I will happily generalise because they're minds are fvcking warped. They're the first to cry out about misinformation yet the first to also fall for it.

And, pardon for coming back to a point made many times already, but combine that susceptibility to misinformation that appeals to self interest with democratic influence on policymaking on critical future issues...

Well, that doesn't end well for anyone.

Prepared to wake up to more depressing news from the Middle East tomorrow.

Looks like Iran have decided that they can’t wait whilst the Americans blockade their ports and their oil production backs up and has to be closed down.  So they’re poking the bear to try and force trump to either renew the war or back down and negotiate. gambling that he will take the latter option.

Only if they're dirty, thieving foreigners.

All English people wash regularly and would never steal or exploit the benefit system.
