So the only two names really being put forward are smarmy Streeting and a bloke who isn't even an MP. How shit must the 400 odd other Labour MP's be?

Does anyone remember a time when a prime minister wasnt called to resign by someone?

Is it time we introduced a transfer style window maybe at the mid point of a term where the prime minister can be judged on a significant time period lol

Too simplistic im sure and I'm not one for politics so don't go beyond headlines but feels like so much time and effort is spent 'saving the job' rather than doing anything else. That goes for Starmer and those before him.

How will you vote?

Well we gave the Conservatives a chance, we gave Labour a chance now it's time to give Reform a chance.

Taking a pasting from her is more than galling.

Another complete waste of time minister

The three  four, that have resigned apart from Jess Phillips, are junior, low profile and probably have better things to do.

I've always said that Starmer is the Fabio Wardley of Politics.

Politics doesn’t work like that, else we might as well give the communist party or EDL a chance. Vote for the party closest to your values.

Problem for me, and I reckon a lot of others, is I'm a bit of everything. Probably even reform if I'm honest. Makes it difficult to vote.

I try to judge each local candidate on their merit, not the party they represent but even that is difficult sometimes. My local MP seems a decent guy and has local interest at heart, which is enough for me to probably vote for him again if there was an election now.

It would be very 2020s Labour for them to spend two years chasing Reform votes by engaging in the culture war, then deciding to follow that up with a guy who has been on record as wanting parts of the NHS privatised.

I guess in their heads, do all Reform's work for them so they don't have anything to take credit for after the next election.

And this is why voting so difficult. There's no single stand out party that you would trust to deliver what you hope they would. based on your own experiences, family background, hopes, work lifestyle and so many other factors.

No single party can be all the things that meet your expectations. You have to balance the probabilities that the party you choose will come closest to your expectations but they are all so vague, with so much rhetoric and spiel they want us to latch on to.

I hate to say it, and I didn't vote for her but, Thatcher did exactly what she said she would do. It wasn't pleasant and has had huge repercussions for years. But there were no grey areas. At least we knew where we stood and could base our choices on what we thought and experienced because of her Conservative party and her leadership.

FWIW I think she was a horrible person. But we knew what was black and what was white with her.

Not the same can be said of the current crop of chancers, in all parties.

Made me think what's the point when people making decisions like that. I guess it's replaced some I'll vote who my Dad has always voted

Agreed. I too never liked or voted for Thatcher but everyone knew where they stood with her. That made it even more galling that she was in power so long. Of course 1990 was a long time ago and it seems conviction politics is a thing of the past

Leaving behind my feelings about Thatcher, I'm not sure the modern 24/7 news and social media reality, plus gotcha journalism that is more interested in constantly taking the opposing side rather than actually listening to ideas, will allow this now.

Agreed.

The political environment in pretty much every democracy has shifted vastly in the last decade with the advancement of social media tech. Some places are handling it more robustly than others, but that may well be because they had or have a strong social contract in place in the first instance.

but it isn’t just ‘someone’ is it? There’s a couple of cabinet members and if recent numbers are to be believed, around 100 Labour MPs..

And the viable alternative is...?

There isn't one. That's a point I've been making all along.

All of the alternatives bar Burham are either apparently less competent or both more charismatic but also more malicious and harmful.

The country is in a mess largely in part due to the bandwagon that Farage set off in 2016.  Yet people will gladly join it once again because he deserves a chance?  I don't often follow politics too much but Rory Stewart and Alistair Campbell are always worth a listen in times like this.  Check out The Rest it Politics on YT for an educated view on the situation.
