ALC Fox Posted 27 August 2025 Posted 27 August 2025 In fairness, there aren't many industries where you have to be bought out of your contract to get a move. Yeah, most people have to work notice or have a period of gardening leave but you're not bound by contract to remain at your employer for potentially years at a time. And, yeah, they get paid an obscene amount of money, but it's our demand that has created it, through subscription TV channels, tickets and merchandise. A player's career is short. Very short, potentially. If he wants to move, fine. I'm not going to hold it against him. A Belgian-Moroccan is hardly going to dream of sitting outside Brucciani's on his days off, loving life in a 400k population city in the Midlands. He wants to play as high a level of football as he can and he'll use whatever methods possible to do it. We only want him because he's good. If he was Rachid Ghezzal, we'd be standing at East Mids Airport making sure he's boarded the plane. He's a good player. We'll have better who play for us again, probably very soon.

We no longer need to sell because of PSR, the release clause has expired so we can name our price and the only actions the player can take are either self-defeating or to grow up and be professional. Nice to see and it's honestly a refreshing change from getting bent over left and right. Haven't you been warned about getting political?

But, in this case, if we have an unhappy player, reportedly on the cusp of downing tools, would the crowd booing his appearance help? Or would it be more likely to tip him over the edge? If he's decided he wants out he don't need tipping over the edge The club would he best served just to get shot

Remember that he doesn't have a club who definitely wants him like Mahrez did with Manchester City back in the day. They didn't meet the valuation, Mahrez had a tantrum for a couple of weeks and then returned before leaving a few months later. With respect to Palace, they aren't Manchester City. Unless they win the Conference League, they're quite unlikely to be in contention for Europe again next season and it's entirely possible that an on-form BEK who shows professionalism, maturity and quality for us this season gets a move to a bigger and better side next summer.

This. Throwing a tantrum benefits no-one. The player gets a bad rep, the club potentially lose money. psr being the biggest block to such moves, in the past clubs could take the hit to get rid of a bad apple and save on wages. However, if a move doesn't materialise, knuckle down, be professional and show potential suitors what they could be getting. Player gets their move next window and the clubs get their profit on the sale. Everyone is happy. Edited 27 August 2025 by urban fox
urban.spaceman Posted 27 August 2025 Posted 27 August 2025 Feels like ****ing years since we had a Mahrez style hissy fit. We are so back. 2

Fox-LMA Posted 27 August 2025 Posted 27 August 2025 Like most or you, I'm no fan of the way the club is being ran. But I do reassured by the fact that most of the powers that be are well versed in dealing with situations like this, & have a track record in resolving these issues largely in our favour.

We then bank the profit next year but we'd be paying his £5m book value this year, offset by saving on his wages but being a player down. The loan fee might cover that too. We need incomings though and it seems we've only just got ourselves in a position we aren't in serious financial bother, so a permanent deal this window must be preferable. I would want the £5m in a loan fee, then an obligation to buy for £25m+

We are a cancer and the entirety of it needs removing. Edited 27 August 2025 by The Year Of The Fox 1
Corky Posted 27 August 2025 Posted 27 August 2025 Not a great look from him. I doubt he sees Crystal Palace as his final big move and this behaviour won't go unnoticed. If they want him enough, they will pay the money.
Long Eaton Fox Posted 27 August 2025 Posted 27 August 2025 I have sympathy for him. Two weeks ago palace made an offer for him which was close to the asking price. Since we have sold Mcateer and Justin for £20m ish. We seem like we don't have to sell him anymore for psr reasons. Must be weird being up for sale one moment and not the next. I hope we keep him and sign Mihailo Ivanovic. Formidable front line

The case is the club has a price they would accept for a player they’re not actively trying to sell, so any club has to meet that valuation or get quite near, which seems hasn’t been the case.
