It will be interesting to see if Braybrooke ever becomes a starter for us.

You would think he suits what Cifuentes wants from a midfielder more than Soumare and Skipp.

Is this the second manager sacked now? Or the same guy lasted all this time?

Bit of a blow for Sammy as the Newport manager seemed to make him his main man. There were a few times when I was watching that he would call over Sammy to pass out tactical instructions to the rest of the team.

I doubt the next manager would be able to get away with him not being one of their key players again, he is much one of the only bits of quality they have

8 games until he is probably back here anyway (before hopefully getting a good loan in League One)

The reason Braybrooke would get called over by the gaffer is cos he's the only Newport midfielder who plays the ball.  A new manager might be even better for him. Probably to the detriment of his neck muscles though as he won't have to be looking up at the ball sailing through the air every 30 seconds.

‘He Is Good’ – Leicester City Out-on-loan Star Gets Noticed By Ex-EFL Man
18/11/2025 - 07:41 GMT

Shub Banerjee

Ex-EFL star Adrian Clarke is of the view that Leicester City talent Sammy Braybrooke, who is on loan at Newport County, is someone with pedigree and thinks he is a good player.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder is a product of the Leicester academy system and he represented England at youth levels as well.

During his early days he attracted interest from Germany, but he decided to ignore the prospect of a move and signed a professional contract with the Foxes.

Leicester sanctioned a season-long loan for Braybrooke to League Two outfit Newport County in the summer and he has featured regularly for them since joining.

Clarke was impressed with Braybrooke’s performance for Newport against Walsall recently and pointed out that the Leicester star won the ball back 14 times, while creating three chances in the game, which they lost 4-2.

He is of the view that Braybrooke is a player with pedigree who did not receive many chances in at Leicester and pointed out that he is a good signing for Newport.

“A central midfielder on loan from Leicester City, Sammy Braybrooke, won possession back 14 times for Newport; 14 times he won possession back and the next closest Newport team-mate won it three times”, Clarke said on What The EFL (44:00).

Club    Years
Leicester City    2022-
Dundee (loan)    2024-2025
Newport County (loan)    2025-
Sammy Baybrooke’s career history

“He also made three chances and on top of those regains, he won five of six tackles, so he is good.

“He is a former England youth international, so he is sort of a young player with pedigree.

“He sort of has not had many opportunities at Leicester, but clearly that is a good pickup.”

Braybrooke has made only one appearance for Leicester’s senior team and last season joined Dundee on loan, but his stay in Scotland was cut short due to a lack of opportunities in the first team.

The midfielder will be keen on making his mark in League Two for Newport before he returns to Leicester after the expiry of his loan.

Born in Leicester and a Foxes youth product, Braybrooke will be desperate for another chance to impress at the King Power in the future.

Sammy Braybrooke yet again the standout performer in a very poor Newport County team

42/47 passes completed - most in game

3 chances created - most in game

3/3 successful dribbles - most in game

14 passes into final third

5/6 accurate long balls

2 tackles

1 block

3 clearances

1 interception

8 recoveries

5/9 ground duels won

It's a bit funny watching him in that Newport team because he's a possession minded player who beats the press and plays tidy passes round the pitch only for it all to be for nought as the teammate he passes to just plays it straight to the opposition or out of play.

At some point i wish that he would just try and take the ball on and try and make something happen himself rather than doing the 'right play' and passing to the player who is supposedly in a better position but doesnt have the quality to make something of it.

All he can do is his job

if he tries to do things he’s not very good at then he’ll look as bad as the others do.

he needs to be at a better team

I know some will disagree with this in principle, especially now with the Fuchs connection, but I think Braybrooke will be recalled and sent to league one if there’s options there in Jan. He needs to play catch up in terms of development and I think it’s pretty clear he’s above league two level.

You're completely right, if he didn't play the ball to the players in space he would get pelters probably but I reckon the team would have a higher chance of winning if he was more selfish and took a few more risks.

Not an indictment on Sammy BTW but of the quality around him. If he was in a better team he would be doing the right thing but in a side like this with no quality around him he almost has to try and take some long range shots himself as he's one of the few with any quality.

No one will disagree with this.
