If we don't get promoted this season the remnants of our PL quality all leave in the summer either because they want to or becasue we have to sell them or they're out of contract. We're left with a firmly second division side with only the "we used to be good when you were a teenager" line to try and attract new signings.

If we don't go up this season I think we'll be here a good few seasons more as it'll be a total clearance of the decks, which is apparently what everyone wants but I dread to think what this place would be like after 2 or 3 back to back seasons of Championship football.

We dont have any PL quality. Not even Fatawu at this point in time.

I agree with this, but doing this which is my preferred option is that we are probably less likely to get promoted by whatever route, but I'm happy with that if we are building for the future and giving Nelson a chance to gain experience and hopefully up his sell on fee if he proves to be as good in time as we all hope....many on here though think not getting immediate promotion is financial suicide...I would argue us missing out on promotion in 12/13 put us in a better position to do so the following season which lead to a team who fought hard to stay up in 14/15 and after that well the stuff of dreams, but my point is a culture had been built which Claudio didn't mess with

Because of Pearson and his staff, nobody else, and they are not here now. Although 12/13 we bottled promotion anyway given we were strong until losing at Peterborough, then ended up winning only 2 in 15 so we ended up only scraping the play offs anyway. But, more to the point, we haven't got them people here now.

Anything other than promotion this season would be failure and then we run the risk of potentially becoming a big club swallowed up by the Championship again just like last time, just like WBA, just like Middlesbrough... I would also argue whichever three teams get relegated from the Premier League this season are then going to be stronger than us next season, if we were to stay down, too.

That's on top of then potentially losing Fatawu, Monga, etc.

Pretty clear most of those who have responded feel the same way as you do and it's difficult to argue with when the sums being what they are for PL tv rights.  Lets see how it pans out, from what I seen so far we are definitely in the frame for promotion, which frankly is amazing with our spectacular lack of creativity or proven striker

I said before the game that he had made a good start by changing the starting lineup....but that was just part of the equation. Subs killed us and lacked any sort of ambition.

Changes were positive in the starting 11, but his involvement during the game has ... as you said killed us

We don't win tonight and pressure is building. I'm not suggesting he should be sscked or is anywhere near that, but our results and performances in the last few weeks have not been anywhere near good enough.
