Had a purple patch for about six months when he was outstanding but fell off a cliff after injury and he was diabolically bad last season. Leeds are welcome to him.

The swamp is actually being drained!!

Short term pain of no signings and perhaps no promotion....but hopefully a long term gain of resetting the club.

Decent money for a player whose contract is up in a year aside, I'm not entirely sure it is being drained just yet. Maybe I misunderstand but when people use that phrase I always assume they mean they want rid of the malign influences who contribute nothing and seemingly couldn't really give a shit - Coady, fine, but does that describe Hermansen, Ndidi, McAteer and now Justin, potentially El Khannouss? If we reach the end of the window and the likes of Soumare, Vestergaard, Ayew, BDCR etc. are not only still here but still playing then that's still not a very nice looking swamp to me.

I won't be too disappointed to see the back of JJ and it's a welcome departure from the former strategy of just letting everyone walk on a free but as long as the money for these players doesn't seem to be actually getting put to any use, I can't get too excited about it.

BEK should go over the coming days which should take us towards £80M.

can we sign anyone?

Did we not also sell Cannon for £10 million in January (as well as buying Woyo for £3 million. By mistake, online)

Winks and Soumare are fine at this level and won't be going imo

Our midfield are this team's biggest weakness in my opinion. Our backline has been under massive pressure in the first half of the Wednesday game, the Preston game and the Charlton game all because Soumare, Winks and Skipp do not do enough work to protect it.

If i could pick two priority positions to replace it would be the two CMs actually, even ahead of striker because at least our wingers will bring goals.

So that's the better part of £50m for JJ, Coady, Ndidi, Mads and Mcateer. Expected to go to £80m when Bilal goes.

This could be great if we manage to get in a couple of CM's and a striker, maybe a permanent and a couple of loans. Even better if we could move on Faes, Viktor, and Bouba, bring the total close to £100m and get a LB and CB too...

...OR, we get no-one and it's a complete disaster.

wish JJ the best.

we are still stuck with some disgustingly awful players on criminal wages however

Doubt it.  He saw out his original contract length.

Not sure that matters for sell on fees.

Anyway only getting a tad more than we paid for him so they'd get only a nominal amount.

Guessing Luton will get some of the profit we make on him?

Doubt it, sell on fees don’t usually carry on after a new contacts been signed do they?

Doesn't make up for Iversen, Tielemans, Iheanacho, Praet, Söyüncü, Amartey and Perez all leaving on frees in recent seasons. Or the subpar fees received for Barnes, Maddison or even Ndidi and Hermansen.

That's without touching on the abysmal signings we've made the last few seasons as well.

It’s poor reading ain’t it.

He was the first player to impress Maresca on his first day in the job. Scored some cracking goals for us. Another of the good guys gone. Best of luck, JJ.

We asked for a reset, and to be fair, we're getting it.

Always liked Justin, but his performances, particularly the first half of last season, showed his decline after the injury. He's also always struck me as a confidence player, which there's none in our squad at the moment... Let's hope he actually passes the medical!

Unpopular opinion from me. I felt JJ has been utter dog muck for at least 2 seasons now.  How the heck we've got this fee for him is beyond me.  He comes across as a nice bloke but last season i felt he gave the fans next to nothing - we stayed after home games and he largely ignored everyone. Doesn't make Leeds better and pure profit for us, plus a big wage gone.  We have given him a lot.

Good luck, but i've felt for a while he was someone who needed to go, and i have no delusions that he has any love for the club.

I think your definition is in correct. But it's the beginning of the process. I agree it won't be done until Soumare et al are gone. But this is the beginning.

JJ is not good and was directly responsible for an awful lot of bad things to happen to us last season. I'm not saying he doesn't care. I'm sure he's a very nice guy. But I want my club fixed and making money from dead wood is a step in the right direction.

I think JJ will be one of those what could of been players. He was absolutely phenomenal a few seasons back for half a season and then got injured. Another season and a half like that and he'd have moved on to a bigger team for 40-50m.

But literally fell off that cliff and couldn't stay fit. Must be playing with a fear of getting further injuries, alongside losing his feel for the game and pace. Doesn't help either that we were an all out attacking team which benefitted his attacking ability to run with the ball, to then return from injury to a team that passes it back all the time.

He's a player whose become too negative and needs moving just so we can begin a new era

But he will go with my best wishes, always felt (although it wasn't always enough) that he gave absolutely everything and genuinely comes across as an alround decent person too.

New start for him, money in our pocket .. win win

Good luck JJ
