Another phenomenal sale.

I agree with others, he has been seriously suspect for 2-3 years. But our defence has been a shit show at various times then so nobody will look good in it.

I hope for him this is a new lease of life and he recovers some form. Not if it means Leeds staying up though, they need to get in the bin

Good to see us actually cashing in on a few players with a year left on their contracts….plus another big earner off the books… starting to get slightly concerned about the lack of incomings but we’ll see what the last few weeks bring 🙏🏻

Really reticent to call losing Kasey and JJ a “draining of the swamp”. Think some people are just too keen to use that term.

Has anyone actually posted this?

So that's the better part of £50m for JJ, Coady, Ndidi, Mads and Mcateer. Expected to go to £80m when Bilal goes.

This could be great if we manage to get in a couple of CM's and a striker, maybe a permanent and a couple of loans. Even better if we could move on Faes, Viktor, and Bouba, bring the total close to £100m and get a LB and CB too...

...OR, we get no-one and it's a complete disaster.

Main problem is we’ve done it with a week left in the window…

Doesn't make up for Iversen, Tielemans, Iheanacho, Praet, Söyüncü, Amartey and Perez all leaving on frees in recent seasons. Or the subpar fees received for Barnes, Maddison or even Ndidi and Hermansen.

That's without touching on the abysmal signings we've made the last few seasons as well.

Tielemans was a lost cause. He purposely ran his contract down and was always going to leave on a free to pickup a large signing on fee. You can’t sell a player that won’t accept a move. He was turning down contract extensions from us for 2+years.

Good lad who had a great start to his time here but injuries and a loss of confidence did for him. Both he and us need a fresh start.

Which is 100% and issue, especially with our track record. Although, I'm stupidly allowing myself to naively believe that we done it to assess who we could shift and how much before moving to get who we need in. That's why I think it will be predominantly loans.

Ofcourse, I know deep down we won't do anywhere near what we need to, if anything but I'm choosing the gullible, painful path here.

Caught out of position numerous times last season in the premiership.   Never the same since his injury.  Good luck to him at Leeds not upset he has gone 8 rising to 10 million good deal.

£24m for JJ and Kasey. Credit where credit is due.

Bloody hell thats 96% of an Oliver Skipp!
But seriously if we spend any of this, it better be shrewd signings.

Re: draining the swamp-

This and Kasey isn’t that but it is still good business and probably necessary. Hopefully gets us on a solid financial standing.

Same with Soyuncu as well.

If a player won’t sign an extension, you move them on if you can. If they are running down the contract to get a larger signing on fee, then you’ve got no hope.

We’ve tried to shift others, however it’s always the balance of what will they cost to replace, then the value of them for the remainder of the contract. It’s the same with dishing out larger contract extensions as well.

Interestingly, I see no one has bothered to pick up Amartey!

Hindsight but he should have been frozen out, especially when it became clear he’d just run his contract down. Not playing for a season doesn’t do wonders for a players’ prospects.

£20m + on two of our, let's be honest, average squad players is incredible from whoever is dealing.

The stuff we should have been doing for years honestly.

i agree, as I have said on other threads, for me, despite form or ability, JJ and Kasey are not part of the swamp. The swamp is still thriving.

Possibly the pantomime villain.

In any case, we will take that given how injury prone he is, and that he barely ventures beyond the halfway line these days. Hope he can find some fitness and get back to the form before his injuries happened.

Great player in the past for us but injury has robbed him in reality

Good Sale under the circumstances (re not much contract time left)

however he does seem one of the better characters in the squad

Good deal, but the squad is looking paper thin and Luke Thomas has not started the season well. £10m is all well and good, but we need replacements - and quickly.

We want blessed with options really that season with other midfielders. Mendy was also leaving. The options of Praet or Choudhury and people calling for Alves or Braybrooke to play …. who still hasn’t broke into the first team now, albeit bad injuries aside.
