Faes and Vestergaard should be starting over him every day of the week, footballing ability wise. Doyle stood out at Coventry, then looked exceptionally ordinary here around better players. I'm not saying Nelson doesn't have 'Potential', I'm just stating based purely on facts and evidence, Nelson in unproven. 

 

Replacing two players who are "Guaranteed" to dominate this level, for one who "Might" do the same, is not a risk worth taking. If it backfires, we lose BEK, Fatawu, likely even Nelson himself and we're up shit creek without a paddle. 

He had a bad injury and was out for 5 months or so. Sorry but this sounds like you are suggesting he wasn’t always first choice and was on the edge of the first team. At best very poor phrasing but given you have not acknowledged the injury perhaps you are thinking it was the scenario above.

I’m really interested to see what Cifuentes does actually. Will he go all in with Nelson & Okoli, perhaps pair one with a more experienced CB, or go fully with the old guard with Faes & Vestergaard just to piss me off!

I think for Cifball ( sorry guys)  to work it needs both the CB's to have a bit of pace or some semblance of it, so Nelson and Okoli fit the bill there, Vestergaard????  Passing ability, a level of football intelligent, and minimal match day brain farts, and also then chuck in the physicality needed to actually defend.  All of this still leads to Nelson and Okoli for me.

 

However....... if im going to be objective for all of the pluses I pointed out above, a pairing of N & O does lack in the experience department,  but taking into consideration the league we are in, I'd like to hope with Marti's track record of promoting youth its a gamble he's willing to take.  If we compare the pre-season performances of the 4 of them, whilst limited due to one circumstance or another I still lean towards N & O as they both performed better during their pitch time..

 

But this is LCFC.

If we were to move vesty and faes on, I wouldn’t be against this.

hes a decent player and 8m isn’t bad for a young English player. Yes he has his flaws, but so will every player we have a chance of signing.

can’t see it happening, but I’d much rather him start than faze and vesty.

I suspect it's just lazy journalism. I'd imagine that the perception is that we have money from selling players and as he has played for us before journalists guess we'd be interested. 

 

I'm not to fussed about him either. He had a unique skillset (at the time) which we needed to play the Enzo way. I believe he was good on the training pitch as well as he could show others what Enzo wanted having come through the Man City academy.

Weve been actively trying to sign a center back since the transfer window opened. 

 

We spoke to Chris Mepham representatives, however he had offers from Sunderland and/he Brentford could exercise an extra year on his contract which is what happened in the end, weve been a long term admirer of his. Could turn out to be a dodged bullet as his injury record recently hasn't been great.

I can’t see us spending £8 million as quoted this window on one player. I can’t see us spending 8 million in total to be fair. Loan the only option?

I think we would love to sell the like of JJ, Vestiguard, Faes if we could find buyers, which is why we are scouting those positions.

Good on the ball, extremely poor in the air for his size and very slow. Baring in mind Okoli was signed as the defensive option to give us pace, this would be an appalling replacement. He'd be adequate to replace Vestergaard though.

He wouldn't be my pick, I think he'll be expensive, I think there are better and cheaper

 

Position, reading the game and having a brain is more important than pace.

 

Daka has pace but he's a crap footballer with no football IQ, Okoli is the defensive equivalent.

The one thing that he has in his favour is his left footedness. It provides balance to the back line when the LB pushes high. It means that the back line would be a bit more counter resistant.

 

But this is true of any CB that is comfortable filling in at leftback.

 

The one thing I would say is that his passing range might remove the need to play Vesty.

Really average and overpriced I'd imagine, and in a position we don't really need anyone for.

 

Also if we have a budget for players at all it feels like we won't have much.
