I feel like tonight was the first performance we’ve seen where we have the makings of a team. They all worked really hard and were up for the physical battle. Some moments of individual brilliance but a proper hard working performance. Still lots to improve on….

We could be devastating and we need to stop playing ourselves into trouble. Especially against teams that will press us high but j guess that was part of the gameplan to try and draw them in knowing they’re gonna press high which then gives us space to attack.

Cant pick anyone out where you’d say “weak link tonight.”

Agreed, still think we need a new goalkeeper though, his decision making verges on ridiculous sometimes

I’m not a “boo-er” of players generally so I agree to some degree, but there is a certain amount of revisionism as to what DG contributed whilst at Leicester.

He gets so much leeway because of “that goal” he scored after Vichai’s death. I’m sure most players would have behaved in a similar way and showed  similar respect. The chance, and the goal, happened to come his way.

Prior to that he spent most of his time sulking because he wasn’t in the team. He kept bleating on social media about it even when Mahrez and Albrighton were the two players ahead of him and had just won the Premier League. When he did get the opportunity he flattered to deceive. He had more false starts than Patson Daka.

He was in the right place, at the right time, to give us “that” moment, but the rest of the time he was a self entitled poser who was nowhere near as good as he thought he was.

I wouldn’t boo him, but it was hardly the return of Marc Albrighton or even Harvey Barnes. Even Mahrez got boo-ed and, despite the things he said, was far more deserving of a free pass than Demarai Gray ever was

Correct

Leicester fans have two phases when a player leaves

1st Phase- Glad he’s gone, he was wank anyway

2nd Phase- (4-5 years later)

Why you all booing? He was decent

It was a gritty win, with some moments of quality.

Still majorly concerned with the midfield two and the ten. First half was infuriating, you could see Birmingham were uncomfortable on the ball, and we could have created more opportunities by pressing them, as soon as we started doing that, they couldn’t cope.

The midfield two, whereas they didn’t do much wrong today, are just so passive in possession, and there’s a real lack of movement off the ball, there’s no dropping into holes, give and goes or quick recycling of possession, it’s all slow and ponderous, and kept getting us into trouble at times. It needs sorting, because we were resorting to smashing balls into channels and for Ayew to try and scrap for rather than building through the middle of the pitch.

There is fight evident in this group, and the ability to scrap, but we’ve certainly not been completely obsessed with one way of winning. Marti deserve credit for this, it’s clear he’s tweaked the team after the Preston defeat to make us more resolute, he knows that we’ve got the individual quality to win tight games, so for now he’s grinding the results out which, is what you need in this league.

I will however have my say on Ayew, he infuriates me still… just doesn’t release the ball quick enough, and at times out of possession, his lack of press and even attempts to win the ball back was really harming us. He is so erratic, for five minutes he will press and he will get stuck in, then for five minutes he will stick his arse out, slowing the game down and trying to win free kicks. I would still rather not play him if we had the choice, he’s fine off the bench, but he just doesn’t offer enough of a threat…… he’s the type of guy who would set a house on fire, just so he could save everyone. He creates his own issues and then fights to resolve them…. But it doesn’t make us threatening… Don’t get me wrong he wasn’t terrible, he works hard enough but seems to work hard for no reason of that makes sense?

Overall though, better… more cohesive.

It makes me confident that just a couple of signings would make all the difference with this team.

As others have said not the prettiest of games to watch but another gritty win nonetheless

positives Abdul was awesome again

Luke Thomas had a good game

Vestergaard and Okoli solid at the back

Hamza played well

Soumare better than Skipp but it's clear we are short in midfield still and toothless at number 9

Marti building a great team spirit it would appear and it's clear he needs some support in the transfer market 2/3 signings forward and midfield are a must

I really wish our accoustics were better at home. We might not have the loudest fans, but there's no way we come across as good as it is at times. Having been Everton this week, the volume transcends so much better.

Were you still in the concourse when Ayew’s lack of press nearly sent us 2-0 up? Players can’t constantly press when we don’t have the ball there’s a right and a wrong time to do it.

He's much more effective as a 10 than a 9 as when he’s playing the 9 he’s naturally dropping into the 10.

No, however, I actually thought he should have done better, he could have toe poked it from the first press when the ball came loose, or looked like he went to round the keeper instead.

I agree they can’t, but I think Ayew doesn’t all at the wrong times, he won’t press when there’s an opportunity to do so, but will when there isn’t. He works hard, but not necessarily in the right areas of the pitch. He still doesn’t release the ball quick enough, and tends to want to scrap for the ball rather than laying it off.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s not dreadful, and he is contributing, I just wish he used his streetwise more effectively, because he can.  It’s an odd one because you can’t fault his effort, but there’s elements of his game that don’t make sense, and he just creates issues for himself and stifles our attack…..

He’s very erratic in game, I would just like a bit more in game consistency from him, he did however look a lot better when Daka was on pressing, it game him the space to work in.

To be fair everything you say here is spot on.

He was the same when he scored his one goal last season. Can tell it really means something to him. Great to see the passion.

Will say again what I have  said before…. I know someone who works with Okoli and Coulibaly and they both have the attitude we need in our squad… they know this is their big breaks and love even being here

Do you know what’s going on with Coulibaly then?

Nothing, am seeing the guy who told me all of this in a few days so will ask…all I know is him and Okoli were at the very least extremely happy to be here, almost as if the pay was way above anything they have ever seen,,, have also had a look into our books seperately, unsurprisingly it seems as though our directors wages have directly given us issues resulting in this mess

Miserable gits have to hide away for a few days then? Not got anything to grin about with your flasks?

Well drilled. Well coached. We can absolutely do this. But **** the negativity on here.

Yes there's twats who do not deserve to be here and Marti will sort it. But **** me, be happy. We won. We can get back up. Stop being so ****ing down.

I will hold my hands up, I expected a really tough evening tonight despite not really rating Birmingham as I've watched a decent bit of their games so far. They are painfully average, but they do have a solid workrate, and I just haven't seen anything like the effort required yet from ourselves. I feared another Preston where a bang average side make an effort and take their chances, this time in front of the cameras.

The application tonight was massive. We're far from the finished article and there are certain players I still want to see moved on, but they played like they gave a shit tonight.

And I'll be real - while we are still at risk of banana skins if we let the levels drop, play like that every game and HMS Piss-The-League is well and truly back afloat.

Directors wages are documented in the account and they are pretty average.

Or he never lived up to his potential and never set the world alight.

He never slated the club, he was just a bit rubbish.

Desperately needed winks to come on and take control of the game. Just what is going on there? Hopefully will be resolved after transfer window closes as we can't be giving up possession so easily all season.

Vesty and Ayew were the two standouts for me.

All in all, a deserved win. We were the better team – and Birmingham shockingly average, for all the pomp and glamour pre-season. They hardly threatened up front.

We need more punch in midfield and at least one prolific striker.

Do we just boo people because they weren’t good? I think people find it odd because he didn’t do anything negative towards us.

Him being unhappy because he wasn’t getting starts isn’t a reason for us to dislike the guy.

mahrez got that treatment because of how disrespectful he was when he left. If you haven’t joined a rival or been negative towards us, why would we boo ex players? I don’t get it at all.

The quality of this league is so so poor.

I know they've gotten off to shaky starts but I can see Southampton and Ipswich both picking up very soon, for the reason you've mentioned. Both have been unsettled this window with players moving on and others coming in. Ultimately their squads are too good compared to most of this league not to be chasing automatics in my opinion.
