I was lucky enough to see two of our greatest keepers Banks and Shilton who made some wonderful saves. Too long ago to remember the games

Still remember shilts v Norwich at filbert st.  All in white, sliding out on his back feet first to save with his fists above his head as bowyer was in on goal and fired low and hard

in his prime with us, shilton was immense 1 v 1

Agree with the Schmiechel votes - a huge factor in league title win and FA Cup win.

I didn't see the game, but I remember the day well and the accolades Gordon Banks got from press and teammates for holding off relentless LIverpool shots in Leicester 1-0 win in FA Cup semi-final in 1963.

I was at that game, at Hillsborough, and we City fans were behind the goal when Banks held Liverpool at bay throughout the second half. Quite the most incredible performance I’ve ever seen from a goalkeeper. It came a week after his England debut.

This was decades ago, back in 1982 when Alan Young stepped into goal to replace the injured Mark Wallington. Back in the day you were allowed only 2 subs, so an outfield player ended up in goal and we completely thrashed the opposition with some long range blaster goals to boot. I think it ended up a 5-2 FA cup match win against the then also second division Shrewsbury. I remember feeling we were going to get a drubbing with a stand in goalkeeper but Smith got himself knocked out and came back to make a couple of really good saves. It was surreal.

Just for the sheer drama and amusement of the day, it was a once in a lifetime display of a GK performance. Everyone needs to live the moment, I found a highlights clip.

Nigel Martin, when he was at Palace, at Filbert Street. I can just remember thinking, we'll never score! He made back to to back unbelievable saves. I can't remember though if it was the fa cup game when we did score?!

As @Bert said, Nyland was terrific in both legs of the league cup semi.

Not so much a performance from the Great Dane here, but he made a marvellous save from Futacs when we played Pompey on NYE 2011. He was going the wrong way and somehow shifted his weight to go back the other way after his feet had left the floor, and keep the ball out. Terrific save. I remember thinking he was a stunt double for the Matrix! :D

I think it was 1 sub at that point.

Classic match and definitely the best performance by an outfield goalkeeper (shoutout to Richard Smith against Oxford a decade later though) strangely I’ve seen it so many times I honestly can’t remember if I was there in person.

Remember Shilton had a great game for us away at West Ham in around 1971 72 season. 1-1 draw with Graham Cross scoring our goal

Here are the highlights.

I was at the game, for some reason the saves looked much better live.

Thanks. Yes funny I remember them as more dynamic but at least the action recorded for posterity. Redknapp, Lampard snr, The Birch, Sammels and all. Mistake by Graham Cross redeemed by his equaliser.

Talking of goalkeepers, I read that Russell Hoult is receiving treatment for cancer. Not sure if it has been mentioned here. Remembered for being called up whilst eating a hotdog. Had a great season for WBA when promoted to the Premier League.
