If There's One Skill You Wish You Had...

For me it would be to speak and sing in fluent Italian. A La Andrea Bocelli. (His voice gets to me every time I hear him especially after his visit to KP).

Italian is such a beautiful language. It's seductive, intriguing and melodic.

The women I could attract...

I wish I could paint. Must be one of the most relaxing things. I'd like to live in a flat in Bloomsbury overlooking a park and sit painting the view on warm autumn afternoons.

So many options.....

The skill of being a fantastic lover able to excite women the world over? Nah, I'm too old for all that...

The ability to make lots of money, with all that it can buy? Nah, I really don't care enough about money....

The ability to live forever or even to age 120? Nah, it'd be too depressing watching everyone I cared about die and seeing my daughter turn into an old woman (at best)

The skills to build a house? Now that would be quite satisfying...

The skill to play a musical instrument to a high standard? Perhaps. I keep threatening my daughter that I'll learn to play the accordion .....but that's something I could conceivably still do....

No, on balance and after due consideration, I'd like to have the ability to adopt the form of a vulture and to roost on fence posts and telegraph poles, just to make people uneasy.

You are increasingly adopting the persona of a character in a classic novel - perhaps something by Jane Austen, no, Henry James?

Something creative for me, just not in my skill set.

Languages - just never had an eye/ear for them

Singing - I would love to be able to sing

Instrument - maybe piano or something

How big would your flat be if you are spending all summer painting it?

Yeah, but have you seen the women he attracts?

I wish I could play the Ukulele or Banjo.

So instead of being an aspiring script writer you could be a busker or a member of a blue grass band?

Not that long ago I'd have said be able to play cool guitar solos but I can sort of do that now, so I'd say be able to write top pop hits to give to the chart bothering acts of the day.

I saw a documentary years ago where a very camp man who wrote 'Like a Virgin' was showing how he threw it together on a piano in a few minutes and I thought it looked like being able to do that would be the best fun.

Like that Lin-Manuel Miranda bloke that's done a lot of the Disney songs over the last few years (I'll ignore Hamilton, which I think is shite) - imagine being able to churn out songs like that - just knowing that people will love them. A proper gift

Singing. I would love to be able to pick up a mic and belt out a tune.
it’s odd because I’m not an extrovert at all but I am so jealous of people who can sing

DJ house/trance music well enough to get a residency anywhere in Ibiza

Get yourself a weird haircut and someone to film you and you’ll be sorted for a few dates

Oh my christ I could have been the 5th member of Mumford and Sons.

Actually I'm probably better off.

I’d love to have any musical ability - I can’t sing or play a musical instrument and never will.

Years ago I watched Paul Simon on some chat show, talking about the songs he’d written, singing some of them, playing a guitar, or harmonica, or sitting at a piano. I’d love to have just one of his skills - he even whistled the bit in the middle of “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard”, and I can’t even whistle in tune!

Not a skill but a wish that I still had sufficient hearing to listen to music, the radio, especially comedies podcasts etc.

I don't have a musical bone or rhythm in my body but my son and MrsG, who are both songwriters and to hear what they have produced would give me so much joy.
