Surely you can't go into an Ashes series with Root as the main spin option?

I think they will go with Bashir. If Stokes couldn't bowl fully then they'd probably have the extra quick.

Risk to go with Stokes, Archer and Wood so potentially it'll be Wood that misses out for Carse.

Is Cook with the Lions? Absolutely superb that Key and the ECB have had a rod on for pace the past few years and it's likely that bowlers like Cook would be getting more joy

Would rather Potts than Cook. Potts and Atkinson would clear up on these Aussie pitches, instead we’re going to pack our attack with 90mph sicknotes who could break down at any given moment.

There was a comment that came out after the India series that Bashir would be the main spin option.

Cook is better than Potts imo. I don't think having a couple of fast options is necessarily a bad thing, it's just funny Rob Key has been so obsessed with it building up to this and it's not as important as it used to be

"... it doesn't really bother me those comments. That's as far as I'll go with that one."

Monty's comments bothered him so little that he just had to bring it up in a press conference lol

The Aussie press are the oldest and biggest trolls going when it comes to sport reporting. The only way to get them to shut up is to beat them.

Hopefully this team has at least a chance of being up to the job.

People losing their mind that this is on TNT. I’m sure it has been for years.

Sky don’t do any away series do they?

Not for years anyway. Its on early hours so most wont see it anyway.

My concern is that Stokes will implement bazball and that that the pace bowlers will be one dimensional and play into the Aussies hands.

I hope that there will be defining performances from the likes of Archer, Wood, Brook and Root but we will need heroic series from at least three players to bring the ashes home.

Come on England. Do this.

Bazball works well if the batters read the match situation. On too many occasions this hasn’t been applied & it comes across as dismissive & arrogant, to me anyway.

If the likes of Crawley, Brook & Smith go all out T20 mode they’ll come unstuck, especially against a good Oz attack, on bigger outfields, where boundaries are harder to clear.

Hopefully the bowling unit stick to a plan & doesn’t bowl too short for long periods, especially now the Aussie tracks do more now when the ball’s pitched up. I’m backing Carse to be the surprise package in this Series, with bat & ball. If Wood & Archer stay fit, it would be a huge bonus too, although l still don’t expect them to play in all 5 Tests. Can’t wait.

Yeah. Sky Cricket is seriously crap value if that's the main reason you subscribe to them.

You know what will happen, we'll run through the top order, then just bowl short at the tail and let them get a load of runs

Sky are just the better all-round set up. You half expect Fletch to do the commentary for this and the half 12 kick off in the Premier League given he seems to be on virtually every thing you watch sports-wise.

Stokes is always bowl first anyway but we could do with having a bowl, even if day 1 ends 300-3.

Getting blown away in that first session 50 for 5 will set the tone for the whole series.

Having it be 2002-03 all over again after choosing to bowl wouldn't be great either.

Hopefully England will win the toss and Stokes will play the conditions.
