Another player who gets better when his not playing.

Another player (in an ever increasing line) woefully mishandled by the club.

Play the right set up - low block, encourage long balls in - and he's excellent. Brentford away and Newcastle away good examples of what he can do when played correctly.

But nope, we employ managers who don't wanna play like that.

BIL is a Stoke fan, he's view is we over paid and he's never been any good in anything other then a 3 CB setup.

True!

Should have won it at the end with Timmy, would have kept us up.

I don't think that moment is talked about enough. It was close to being an extraordinary moment in our history. Being totally mullered for 80 mins after tactically leaving our best players out in Barnes and Madders in order to go at it in the last 10. And it almost worked. Sliding doors moment.

Lot of you talking absolute waffle, he’s perfectly good in a back 4 for the Socceroos.

He’s absolutely a better defender than Faes and Jannik.

Put money on him never playing again at all. Always looked like he's been on the piss the night before to me.

Very likely - he is an Aussie

Sheffield United fans raved about him last year. They were dominating the league until he got injured. Hes a very good player at this level regardless of whether hes Prem quality

100% my mates are all Utd fans. Couldn’t believe we loaned him, proper old school CB always 7/10 every week. Get him fit and play him, get vesty out the club.

That was one of those strange moments, when you suffer for effectively doing the right thing.

Castagne hit that volley in effect with a perfect connection .. bearing in mind you need to keep your eyes on the ball every inch of the way.

Unfortunately it went straight down the goalkeeper's throat, and he was able to make a reaction save.

If Castagne had just miss-hit it slightly, it would've flown into the net, for an absolute screamer ... and it would've gone down in City folklore like Claridge 1996.

Youd hope he looks decent against the likes of Bahrain and Indonesia to be fair lol

Dean Smith given a lot of stick here. That Fulham performance was horrific but outside of that, he did a decent job really.

He's got a touch of the Vestergaards about him where his laughable lack of pace gets caught out in the Premier League but he's a good enough defender and also good enough on the ball to not look horrendous in this league.

Very interested to see what his pace is like now though. He was slow enough before but after snapping his achilles, he's surely even slower now.

By the time he ever plays for us again, he'll be the Australian Van Dijk.

It's going to kill people to discover he's worse than Faes and Okoli.

Crucially, he seems like a strong character and he's not been tarred by being an absolute shit willy puller in successive failure squads.

Nelson and Souttar in a slightly deeper line would be formidable, if we can't create much in open play we absolutely must be a better SP team and these two are massive.

As you say, he did everything right.

Life went into slow motion. As a viewer you could see the move building, the cross l, Castange's position and then as life seemed to stop, willing him to do exactly what he did - hit the sweet spot. Soon as it left his foot, I thought 'that fcker's in' ......

....sighs

Yeah of course, but that’s a pretty lazy way to look at Asian football.

He had very, very good performances in the World Cup, for a team that very much pushed Argentina in the Round of 16.

There are now 18 Aussies in the Championship, about 8 of them should be in Word Cup contention. Souttar, if he gets fit and minutes, is in the squad no question. Australia’s issue is top tier talent at the moment, real world beaters just aren’t there. But it’s a very well rounded squad, with a lot of players who are finally coming through the A-League and moving when they’re ready.

Australia ranked 25 in the world by the way, ahead of Turkey, Wales, Scotland, Serbia, Sweden, Norway, Nigeria. Don’t think there’s much of a conversation about someone of Souttar’s abilities if he was the starting CB for anyone of those nations, but because it’s the Socceroos playing Bahrain (ranked 90), it’s looked very differently to Turkey playing Bulgaria (91).
