I’m sure there’s a better player in him. I think it’s more to do with Brussels approach to games that setting him and others back imo. Take off the leash.

Was just a bit careless with the ball. Hard to tell if it’s because he was trying more ambitious passes or just didn’t play well. I’d say across the season he’s been a 6/10; neither a disaster nor a standout. Still want him to sign a new contract mind.

I think what’s happened is people who never saw him last season have heard the good reviews and expected him to be a ridiculous level.

He had a very good match as recently as our last league game against Barnsley and we fell apart once he came off.

Yet based off what you read on here you would think he's been rubbish since the Nottingham County game.

Let’s be honest.

He’s had as many poor games as he has had good.

The issue with Sammy is that he can often look ineffective as he doesn’t influence enough at either end of the pitch.

His defending (or lack there of) was Sunday league level for their second.

Bizarre that he's being made a target.

Was our best midfielder in the last 2 games prior to this one against Barnsley and Fulham u21. Wasn't even bad tonight.

I like Braybrooke. He’s got great technique and is a real ball player but he didn’t do very well for either goal today. I was particularly concerned about his involvement in the 1st one. It didn’t seem to occur to him that there was any danger or even that he had some responsibility to try and win the ball back having been bullied off it in the middle of the pitch. After these mistakes he had opportunities to shoot and make amends but he preferred to cycle it sideways from the edge of the area every time. Frustrating today.

I won't lie and say that Braybrooke's defending was acceptable but that was Winks twice a game for 2 years and our fans still clapped him at the end of last season.

Braybrooke being good 50% of the time still makes him one of our best players. In 3 league starts Riis was poor against Oxford, below average against Barnsley and excellent at Stockport so that's only 33% and he's rightly seen as one of our best players.

It just seems like the academy players have to be the best players on the pitch every week to get approval from fans when the real issue is that the rest of the team isn't pulling their weight.

We have an extremist manager, of course the players are going to look crap executing his instructions. Put a non-twat in charge and then we can see

There's a decent player in there. Martin is making a lot of decent players look worse than they are as literally nobody is playing to their strengths.  Not even the players he's signed.

I think it'll help Braybrooke having competition from Smallbone so he's not under a ton of pressure for a young lad.

It's alright saying shots are on from a TV video but evidence suggest that with 10 defenders packed into the area and our stats  of 21 shots blocked  it's not o convincing. Especially as he was usually right in the centre with the bulk of those defenders in front of him.

We take too long moving the ball up the pitch allowing those 10 defenders to organise themselves so it's not surprising that our only goal came from a long ball from Souttar to Emil bypassing that defence.

I think that's unfair, I think he's probably been praised more for his performances this season than he should because he's an academy product, if he had a different name on his back I think tides turn quicker. Everyone wants him to do well, if you compare to Page you can see he is nowhere near but Page is playing below his level, I think L1 will be SB level which is fine.

He’s looked good, always looking to win the ball back, solid on the ball just needs a full season in this team seems like a clever player

All true, but he didn't look good for their second. Although, why he was marking their 6' striker, i'll never know! put someone more physical on him, surely

I like watching him play, it'd think he will continue to grow. He'd probably suit a more direct team as he seems to want to progress the ball up the pitch and willing to take risks.

One of his best attributes is his range of passing that's why he needs to play in the deeper role although that tends to make him pass it back more, under instructions :dunno:

Anyway I think he'll no longer be first choice in the deeper role that seems to have been given to the stronger less creative Lundstram so he'll be up against our crowded 8 & 10s

Braybrooke was good against Notts County, MK Dons, Plymouth and Barnsley. That's 4 good matches out of 7.

No one else in our team has had 4 good matches in the league this season, not even Page. There is no reason for the "tides to be turning" as on paper he has been our best player this season. Simply put, him being picked out when the whole team is underperforming is unfair on him and is agenda-led, not football led.

Felt like he was scared to play a longer ball and most of his passing yesterday was a bounce pass back to a centre back.

Also wonder why he wasn’t taking free kicks and corners when we know that’s one of his strengths. Some of Doyle’s set pieces were woeful.

His problem is that he is a six but he doesn’t have the core strength to survive in the modern game as a six.
he isn’t an eight because he doesn’t have the attacking instincts that an eight needs,

if the coach can create a six/eight hybrid role then he may be able to excel in that

Looking forwards, iI think he will struggle to make it at the higher levels in the championship and beyond due to his physical weakness.

the modern game is unforgiving.

I like him there is a good player in there.

Think he has been overused this season though the only player that has started all 11 of our games this season usually playing the full 90 minutes.

Yeah he did pass back more than usual but I think it's because being deeper it was like a Saturday in Highcross extremely crowded so finding a forward splitting pass nigh impossible and he did spray some beautiful passes out to wings when there was someone clear. This is the problem with building slowly from the defence by the time someone in the deeper midfield role gets the ball finding an outlet is almost impossible and increases the monotonous circulation of the ball among the defence

To be fair though, we’ve said this about the last 5 managers we’ve had.

things that transcend bad managers:

ability to pass

ability to tackle

ability to shoot

ability to hold on to the ball

strength

speed

we should be asking ourselves “ how many of these things is Sammy displaying”?
