Short term deal

25k/week

Heavy bonus structure to bump that up based on appearances/goals/wins

perhaps indicates that carranza can be sent back in Jan or daka may be off.

We can still get in two loans and we could do with a pacy striker as well!

He’s already better than Ayew and he hasn’t even played for us yet

Is he though

7 goals and 4 assist in last two seasons in prem over 40 games and as striker

Ayew 9 goals 7 assists last 67 games but for one season was playing for a team that couldn’t score and only 5 games as a cf or ss

I must admit, I’m not enthralled by the idea that we are turning to a 35 year old who hasn’t played a senior game for over a year, but whatever it takes!

No brainer if it's pay as you play or even a nominal salary on a short term deal. Good player before his accident and knew where the goal was

Also had a knee injury that kept him out for a quarter of the season before his accident

Maybe it's not ideal, but if the contract is favourable for 6 months it could work well for both parties. Especially if we have no transfer funds.

Our strikers are beyond bad. This guy can't be any worse. In 20 games they've got like 4 goals between them (even less excluding penalties). I don't see how he can be any worse. I've totally given up on Daka now.

At the very least he's physical, can hold the ball up and head it. He might have struggled to get into the West Ham team in the Premier League. But we're a mid table championship team with League one strikers. It can't do any harm.

Age isn't a universal guarantee a player is done being effective. Vardy was 36 turning 37 our last season in the Championship. Worth a shout, he's physical striker who can score. Daka's not built for English football. Ayew isn't a "true" striker,  he plays better as a link up man. Carranza is what I would expect from MLS - largely overwhelmed by the physicality of the Championship and speed. Antonio fits our needs and budget. I don't see a better alternative at the price point. Sure, I'd love to still see Joel Piroe but its worth the risk to see if Antonio has what it takes.

Marti Cifuentes gives Michail Antonio transfer update as free agent trains at Leicester City
The 35-year-old is looking fit in training and could be offered a contract with the club as they seek to add more firepower and climb the Championship standings

Leicester City could offer former West Ham striker Michail Antonio a route back into club football with manager Marti Cifuentes confident he has overcome the effects of his serious car accident last year.

Free agent Antonio is training with City and could win a contract at the club as they seek to solve their striker woes.

The 35-year-old has not played any senior club football in more than a year since breaking his leg in a serious road accident last December, having been released by the Hammers in the summer.

But Cifuentes said he’s looking fit in training and spoke positively about the Jamaica international.

Free agent striker training with Leicester City ahead of potential transfer

He’s not going to be a surprise inclusion in the squad to face Ipswich on Saturday, but discussions are under way over whether City will offer him a deal.

“He’s a player who’s got big experience in the Premier League,” Cifuentes said at his press conference on Friday afternoon. “He’s training with us at the moment and we’re having a look.

“He’s a good football player. He comes from a period without a team, but he’s been training only a couple of days with us and he’s been looking good. He's a good lad to have around as well.”

Asked if Antonio was showing any effects of last year’s car crash, Cifuentes said: “Not at all. He’s looking good in that sense. It would take some time (for match fitness) because he has been away for a long period.

“It’s never easy. It doesn’t matter how hard you train, the level in games is different. But he’s looking good.

“It’s something we’re discussing. We’re having a look and he’s happy to train with us. We'll see.”

Ahead of the clash with Ipswich on Saturday, City’s three strikers – Jordan Ayew, Patson Daka and Julian Carranza – have scored just four goals between them, including two penalties, and more firepower could make a difference in their bid to climb the table.

The match against the Tractor Boys will be Daka’s final game with the club before he links up with Zambia for the Africa Cup of Nations. If Zambia go all of the way, Daka will miss eight City matches.

We’re talking marginal gains here. So far the hierarchy is (from bottom to top):

Carranza, Ayew, a can of baked beans, Daka, return of David Speedie, Antonio

Had he been without the injury, and the wages were sensible, I could see the logic. But we have been hit negatively by too many of these deals so I don't trust the club.

lol

Seriously depressing. Can't think of a worse bunch of strikers we've ever had at the club. It's no wonder we can't seriously think about play offs or promotion when we don't have a striker. As shit as most teams are in this league, the vast majority of them have a decent striker, and that makes a big difference at this level. We don't even need someone to score 20+ goals but these 3 will be lucky to score 10 between them by the end of the season.

Yep

that’s what it would take

btw, I reckon he’s scored more at the KP than any of our strikers in the past two seasons

Jon you cant offer. 25k to 36 year olds who haven’t played for a year .

that why we are in this mess
