Expectation + last 10 seasons of football vs standard this is absolutely as bad as any club has seen- we finished 5th two years in a row then won an fa cup in the last 6ish years and now we are very definitely staring down the barrel at league one, this is the worst many football clubs will ever see, not just us

i see it this way........you've had a series of girlfriends, and because you're fairly ordinary, your girlfriends have always been a bit rough, some worse than others, but you're used to it as you know no better, so it's okay, but then this absolute stunner is into you, and you're on another planet and can't believe your luck, and think this is it for life, but outside forces ruin it, and it's over, and you're back to the rough girlfriends, but those girlfriends don't seem so attractive anymore, as you think you should be doing better, despite others telling you, you're a fairly ordinary fella, so should be happy with what you have.

so in short, we have seen it before, but this time it feels a lot worse

Ian Holloway would be proud of that analogy !

The problem is, we had those years with a 10 and they were great years and we loved it!
Now we’re not even with a 4, and whilst we know we won’t ever get a 10 again, we’re a solid 6/7 and should be getting that.

The worst part is, the current 3 we have doesn’t even have a nice personality.

Off the pitch it’s way way worse than the Terry Shipman days by far.

We sold anyone to balance the books but we weren’t in debt and it was a case of survival but we were a well run club and directors had the best interests of the club at heart and showed up to games.

The Care is the most important thing here and Aiyawatt hasn’t got that so why keep it on ?

It’s time for them to really consider selling and let us all move on, it’s just not fair on the fans

I wasn't this down about the club when we actually get relegated to League One. This is the worst it's been.

Saw this tweet earlier:

Confirms my belief that we're currently the most miserable club in the 92 to support.

Its not the players fault the fans don't give a shit, in a division higher than the worst ever you claim. Mek yer mind up

It’s pretty odd in some ways that our historically worst ever league placing in the pyramid is a first placed finish….that’s probably not the case for most clubs.

Despite being technically our worst season in terms of league placing, it was a great, enjoyable season, with a manager and squad we could all get behind and relate to. This current situation is more lithe build up to it but given the financial position, I would say this is the worst yet. Relegation to L1 this time is going to destroy us. When we go down, whether it is this season or next, we will set a new lowest position as we will not be going down and winning it at a canter again.

I'd be interested to know what another season of almost unwatchable football and negligent management of the club does to season ticket numbers without change of ownership and Rudkin being given his P45

I’d go one step further and say that may even be unique.

We've had seasons in the bottom half of the Championship before but what makes this very different is that this bin fire of a team receives wages that dwarf what other clubs in the league are paying. In pure vfm terms this has to be the lowest point in the club's history and arguably in the history of the Championship. It must surely be virtually impossible to have the highest wage bill in this league and yet not only be so low in the table but produce performances that undoubtedly deserve us being even lower.

Probably yeah. Obviously I have no knowledge of other clubs specific points. Clubs like Forest and Leeds we will all remember struggling in L1 for a few years in recent memory for example. It’s not unfeasible that another club has gone down to a particularly level only once and come straight back as winners but like you say, it’s unlikely as it’s a specific set of circumstances.

I wondered about Newcastle. Interestingly it looks like the last 3 times they have dropped into the second tier they have won it, but going back a bit further, they have spent significant time lower.

It’s the worst I have ever seen us, but this includes being disconnected with the players and everything associated with the club; I have never felt that way before.

The impending points deduction is worrying but still abstaining from attending City games until these charlatan owners are gone!

Wouldn’t even attend if offered a free ticket 😂

When we lose to a Sheffield Wednesday team with 11 youths will be the new low

We nearly lost to them at home anyway.

How far down the football league are you going? I’m pretty sure Sheffield United’s lowest ever finish is 1st in League Two.

Anyone. I wasn’t sure. But yes, correct, Sheffield United, 1 season in the 4th tier, 1981/82 and won it. Good knowledge!

There probably are a couple more if you start looking into it? Football history is amazing. I know Sheffield United because I’ve spoken with a couple mates, who support them, about this subject. I was trying to find a bigger club than Sheffield United though. I actually thought Wolves had done the same but when I checked they had one season in League Two prior to winning it.

Despite the football and the relegation of 07/08, there was never any thought that the club were drifting into abyss. We always knew we were likely to bounce back and the club were in a much better position financially than we are now. In Milan Mandaric we had someone who knew how to run a football club and wanted to see the club succeed - now the attitude on the pitch is bad, but the attitude in the board room is even worse

It’s not really true. There was still debts then including the £17m related to the still fairly new shiny stadium. The club’s wage to turnover percentage was worse at the time of the L1 relegation (103 per cent). People didn’t care/notice as much because there was no talk of PSR and actually being in administration and close to the wall just five years earlier. By comparison, five years ago this season, we were winning the FA Cup and chasing the Champions League.

That’s precisely why it probably feels worse. We’d had a few ever increasingly poor seasons in the Champ than we were used to as well in 07/08. There was also more of an acceptance then that players were limited but tried harder, partly because of the huge wages many are currently on.

For me ... it feels worse and for many reason but most of all is the fact that having won the Premier league, the FA cup, played in Europe,  and the model other clubs envied... plus all the revenue that came with it .... somehow the club through bad management and planning have managed to put the club in the current position ... we are years away from turning it around

Yeah their fans were excellent yesterday and good numbers considering they're on minus points.

They have obviously been through awful times with their owner but at least they can hold onto some hope that they can now rebuild again, and you get that feeling of positivity from their fans.

We just haven't got any hope at the moment at all. Most of us can see where this will end up, but continued inertia from our clueless owner is just delaying any opportunity for positive change at all.

We've become a soulless football club.

On a separate note felt so old yesterday seeing Heskey's son play. I remember watching his dad's debut for us!  The years go too quickly.

Would argue that there’s been lower points / era’s Pleat / McLintock / Holloway etc but we weren’t both in the financial or prestige position we were post Premier League Title.

Thats what makes this worse.

Can’t believe how many people were there yesterday - it’s staggering.

Nothing will change as there is simply not the numbers behind any boycott or protest - our fan base is just so mid.

People will churn out their disgust every week via their keyboard but will sit there every week at the KP watching it all unfold.

We’re doomed
