The “I came through the Leicester City academy” XI

Okay, I think it’s self explanatory!

 

They don’t need to have had success with us, however must have come through the academy.

 

We’ve had some some exceptional players over the years within our youth setups.

 

What would your XI be then? 
 

GK: Victor Johansson

DL: Ben Chilwell

CB: Cedrick Kipre

CB: Calvin Bassey

RB: Richard Stearman

LW: Harvey Barnes

CM: Andy King 

CM: Kieran Dewsbury-Hall

RM: Max Gradel

FW: Gary Lineker 

FW: Emile Heskey

 

S1: Jacub Stolarkzyk 

S2: Jeffrey Schlupp

S3: Hamza Choudhury

S4: James Wesolowski

S5: Liam Moore

S6: Chris O’Grady

S7: Matt Piper

S8: Matt Heath

S9: Kasey McAteer

 

You’d like to think some of the current batch exceed some of these. Monga, Nelson, Page Etc

Erm, what is the criteria here in terms of delving into history? You’ve gone back for Lineker for example but not Shilton in goal?

In fairness I wasn’t thinking as far back as Shilton, although he’d definitely be included if we went back to people coming through in the 60s / 70s. I only ever really remember Shilton playing for England. I’m too young for him as a Leicester player. 

Saying that, I only saw Lineker play for Barcelona / Tottenham and England :ph34r:

Both before my time (Lineker and Shilton) but I don’t think of them as a different era because of when they finished, but in fairness, Shilton went on to an older age and Lineker finished early.

 

But yeah, he or Banks actually if you were going even further back.

Banks not from our academy. Bought from Chesterfield and, as far as I can remember, was already an England U23 player when we bought him.

Johansson didnt come through our academy....he was recruited by Ben Petty from Aston Villa as a 19 year old....same as Iversen was signed as a 19 year old danish youth international.

 

Bit like claiming Bellingham was a product of Dortmunds academy.

I’ve always wondered how long does a player have to have been in an academy to say they’re a product of that club? 

 

Silko for example isn’t a Leicester product but you can say we helped in his development I guess!

Banks was a product of Chesterfields academy.

A player becomes classed as “home grown” if they are at a club for 3 years before they turn 21

By the time we see Micheal Heinz Golding he will be classed as home grown?

 

OK, he will be 37, but still counts surely 😉

Failed with the very first player lol. VJ was not an academy player and in fact we only got him when he was 20 or very close to it.

 

I know you've missed a few but that list sums up how crap our academy has actually been until recent years.
