lee7 Posted 15 August Posted 15 August A striker!!! Someone who is a proven goalscorer at this level or in the championship!
Popular Post LCFCJohn Posted 16 August Popular Post Posted 16 August One position which needs adding to as being might which is another striker. I think they would need to be proven in this country as we have already taken the punt on Bristvic. I’d even be happy if that was Danny Ormerod as he has scored for fun in the National League and is only 20. Others are needed to replace existing members of the squad that we need out. A holding midfielder, a type of player like when we signed Kante or Ndidi but level appropriate. We I’d rather we dipped into a market like the French or Belgian leagues as we did with those 2. And this would need Skipp and/or Choudhury out. Centre backs to replace the current rabble. Ideally Faes, Souttar and Okoli would go and we’d bring 3 in but I’d take 2 for 2. I’d like a new partnership that has one player with a few years under their belt that perhaps knows this league and a younger addition maybe from Europe. It is important that the centre backs and midfielder should address current weaknesses with physicality. Players like Burns and Cullen just have done nothing to address this. The final bit is goalkeepers. McCarthy is a liability and the Blackpool guy, when asked a colleague who is a Blackpool fan he didn’t know anything about him but referred to him as a young keeper (he’s 29)! So hardly a good reference. If Stolarcryk is not in the plans, with him being out of contract next summer, we should just cash in, pure profit. I’d be inclined to bring in a loan here if the right permanent deal is not available. Loans could be used for a striker, one of the centre backs or goalkeeper as well really. 5
lcfc sheff Posted 16 August Posted 16 August So Martin says we don’t need to sell anyone, are we gonna see the money being actually spend if we get rid of Mavididi and Faes?
Popular Post dmayne7 Posted 16 August Popular Post Posted 16 August (edited) Never been more desperate for a striker in my lifetime. To have only 1, who has just joined from a very weak league where he hardly tore it up, and is a young lad, is criminal. Unacceptable to have started the season like this. Only two loans left and I think one will definitely be a CB, the other probably a striker, but that's pure guess work. I suppose it depends who is still available on a free, what cheap options that are on the continent and how much we generate and are able to use should we be able to offload Souttar, Okoli, Faes, Mavadidi and Skipp or Choudhury.
Iwebema Posted 16 August Posted 16 August I dont think we are that far off a good well balanced squad, obviously we need to address the centre backs urgently. Only 2 fit and both would rather be elsewhere. And it sounds to me like he wants an old experienced midfielder. The issue is we always, without fail, do not fully address the obvious things, I cant remember the last time we went into a season without obvious gaps that were just ignored. Hope Mccarron can be a difference maker in addressing them.
jayfox26 Posted 16 August Posted 16 August Are we being linked with any centre backs? I cant imagine there are any decent free transfers around so its most likely going to be a loan. Problem is, if Souttar goes, we need a bit of experience at the back as our likely starting full backs (Joseph and Mcfarlane) are both young and inexperienced. Generally though, loans tend to be young players wanting to get match experience. Big blow Nelson being out as we really dont want Okoli or Faes to be playing often.
RedSoxUK Posted 16 August Posted 16 August It's an absolute ****ing embarrassment so called professionals such as Martyn Glover, James McCarron, and... John Rudkin... Have failed to bring in a ball playing centre back (or even ANY ****ing centre back,) likewise, a goalkeeper capable of playing out from the back. They should genuinely be ashamed of themselves especially Martyn Glover. Clearly sits on his arse collecting pay as a pencil pusher signing of Sean St Ledgers beer tab in Stockholm or whatever. It's pathetic. It's sad. We need CBs ASAP you morons, should have been lined up as soon as Nelson got injured. 1 1

Cheers".

And the problem is, I suspect they are needing to let players go in that position before they are able to bring anyone in. We've still got 3 fit senior centre backs, with a young lad who's been in plenty of matchday squads and also people like Aluko who can play there. Compare that to up top. We literally have 1 guy who can play as a lone striker and that's it, which doesn't factor in that he's a complete gamble. BDR, Chaplin, Cullen etc. could play there if up top with somebody else but they are so ill suited to being the focal point. Don't get me wrong, I want to see some centre backs in who can actually do what's being asked of them, but the priority has to a striker
FrankieADZ Posted 16 August Posted 16 August as @Ric Flairsaid, we need to look at Linus Carlstrand within the next year or so if we can unreal strike that
LeePhilpottsBaldSpot Posted 16 August Posted 16 August (edited) With the money from (hopefully) selling Faes, Souttar and Mavididi, snoop around the Championship benches from the first weekend for disgruntled centre backs and left backs. Birmingham's Dael Fry, Middlesbrough's Alfie Jones, WBA's Conor Townsend, Sheffield United's Harrison Burrows. Might be that none are interested, but maybe something to being a starter at a (recently) big club compared to rotting on the bench at those clubs. Edited 16 August by LeePhilpottsBaldSpot 1

cityfanlee23 Posted 16 August Posted 16 August Stephen Mfuni went to Watford on on loan in January, played 8 games, got injured for the season, and their steady form collapsed the moment he left. Watford rumoured to want him back again as well as Swansea, but we have the Enzo link, Mfuni would be playing at a lower level, but he would be getting trained day in day out as a Ball Playing Defender, by a manager renowned for for a high possession style. Any other League One club I think would struggle to battle Watford/Swansea, and we might do too, but we offer something that benefits the player and Enzo that they don't, he might need a few more weeks, but he did play 45 mins against Milan. 1
FoxesWalk Posted 16 August Posted 16 August (edited) 1) A Mircale 2) 2 ball playing center backs 3) a tall physical CM 4) a striker with something to prove to rotate with Bristric Honestly it feels ridiculous to suggest we need to sign a 3rd keeper this window, but I’d probably also sell Jakub and buy a keeper who is good with their feet to play Martins brand of football. I don't think it's ridiculous. To be honest before we brought in Raviolli I thought a keeper that's good with his feet and confident on the ball is more important than ball playing CBs. A Mads type who comes out and provides an extra man is vital to this type of system and has been missing for a while. The point with this position is it effectively enables you to outnumber a press. Even with defenders that are shit on the ball. 1

AKCJ Posted 17 August Posted 17 August Desperate for a midfielder who is comfortable facing his own goal with the ability control the tempo of a game. It was ****ing hard work watching Skipp routinely tackled due to his own lack of awareness. A commanding midfielder that knows what he's doing in English football would do wonders for us. I would say our priorities are; 1. Commanding defensive midfielder. 2. Centre back happy to have the ball at his feet. 3. Reserve striker, probably a loan. 4. Box to box midfielder (if Page is sold). We have to get at least 1 and 2 in. If we end the window with Souttar, Page, Faes and Mavididi sold then we simply have to sign 1, 2 and 4. 4
