This got me thinking last night.....was this the largest ever following we've ever taken to an away league fixture??

Crowd was just short of 14k that day and it was estimated we had 10k fans there.

Cant imagine many other league fixtures where we have taken >10,000 fans....but im sure someone on FT might know the answer to that?

Possibly a similar amount of our fans at Fulham away April 1983.

Game against a promotion rival with a 24k attendance. A 1-0 win and another great day out in London. :scarf:

I didn't go last night but was at that game at Molinuex. We had so many collapses that season... a bit like this season really.

I believe we took a similar figure at Upton Park when Charlton were playing there, we certainly outnumbered the 'home' support. We were chasing auto promotion under Little. We regularly took massive away followings in those days.

I was hoping there'd be a few more stories attached to 'being there' rather than simple 'I woz there'

Southampton at home, 2026?

Gotta go down in the history books that one.

oh it does for sure.

WBA at home 2026 for the "boyccott" reasons and Soton home for all the wrong reasons.

Low points:

Grimsby; at home in April 82. We battered them and lost 1-2, to effectively end our promotion hopes

Grimsby away in Feb 83: we lost 0-2 on a miserable day. Then we went 15 games unbeaten to go up

Ipswich at home, Christmas, 2002 (?). We conceded 2 late goals to lose 1-2- Fortunately we went on to get promotion

Newcastle away, 13 Jan 1989. 4-2 up with 13 mins to go and lost 4-5. "Oh well, that´ll never happen again" I thought......  In fact, the next season we beat them 5-4 at home

Barnsley away in the cup after Joachim´s screamer

High points:

Shrewsbury cup game 1982 (on the pitch afterwards)

The play-off final against Derby

Winning the league cup at Hillsborough in 97

Daka scoring a hat trick to keep us up at Blackburn, May 2026

Must be up there.

I remember when we played Charlton away at Upton Park as the Valley was shut, in I think the Little days when it must have been a similar amount.

Half the ground was shut off as the Charlton fans were boycotting, but they had to open one of the stands down the side because of the sheer amount of City fans packed in behind the goal.

Had a nice kick about on the pitch with an over sized beach ball as they moved us.

Think we lost 2 0 with Rob Lee scoring the goals.

Worth a thread on it's own, big away followinhs..

But yup, this was the one I immediately thought of. The terrace behind the goal easily held 6k and as you say, the entire chicken run side was opened for us. I too walked across the pitch to get to it. Easily 9k. If not 11 or 12.

Before my time but I think we had an easy 8k at that Keith Weller Luton cup game.

We played manU in a nothing league cup game under Brian little and I'm sure we had 13k in that end

Went to Cleethorpes to see relatives. Grimsby ground was 5 minutes away. Last into the ground. Sat on the back row. When Muzzy scored I jumped up smashed my hands into the roof. Painful experience. Couldn't see the ball above 10 metres.

Had an allocation of 11k.

Back in the day, away clubs could demand up to 1/4 of stadium capacity. Old Trafford was a lot smaller in those days.

Still lost 5-1 though. 😟

Selhurst Park (Wimbledon 1997, League Cup semi) was a lot better though. Pretty sure we had least 10k there.

That Charlton game at Upton Park is the biggest footballing anti climax I have ever experienced. We had the momentum but still needed a win to keep us on track for automatic promotion.I think we drew in what was a pretty dull game and we just couldn’t get any atmosphere going, even though it was glorious weather and 12000 + Leicester in the ground.Having reluctant hosts didn’t help.

Couldn’t make the Old Trafford LC game but another huge following.I think Colin Hill scored a consolation that night?

2 FA Cup games spring to mind.

City 3 v 2 Leatherhead, 1975.

My dad took me, l was 9. We were 2 down at HT ! Great second half comeback, saved our blushes.

City 5 v 2 Shrewsbury, 1982.

Incredible game. 2-1 down, Wallington off injured. Lynex & Young both had a go in goal ! Hardly saw the 2nd half from the back of one of the pens behind the goal.

I was at both those games too.

Like you, my dad took me to the Leatherhead game when i was 8.....one of my first ever games. Seem to remember some fella called Chris Kelly scoring for them.

The Shrewsbury 5-2 game remains the best LCFC game ive ever seen in terms of drama, atmosphere and emotion.   Not often you finish a game with your 3rd GK....who is 5'7" ...!

I was in the south stand standing enclosure that day....absolutely packed in like sardines.  Weirdly, i think the pouring rain actually added to the atmosphere that day...!

The Shrewsbury game doesnt quite beat the Stevie Claridge "shin of god" moment.....but it was a great game!!!!

I was stood on the kop that day as id gone to watch with a few of my college mates from Liverpool

We had just been beaten 3-1 by Exeter in midweek in the FA cup (replay?) and we were bottom of the league....and Liverpool were absolutely flying so no one gave us a chance went they went 1-0 up.

We fought back to win 2-1 (pat Byrne and Jimmy melrose?) but what really sticks in my memory is the absolute pandemonium surrounding me on the Kop as time was running out and their long, long unbeaten home run was about to end

They were genuinely getting hysterical and there were many in tears at the final whistle and then........

....as the leicester players started walking off towards the tunnel from the far-end,  the Kop began to applaud and the City players walked sheepishly down to the Kop end to take the huge applause looking genuinely bemused!

Never seen that before in football at that time....genuinely choked me to be surrounded by scouse Koppites applauding the city players who were rock bottom of the league at that time....and against all the odds, had become the fist team to beat them at home in years!

Some of the bin dippers were also throwing chunks of the concrete terraces at us, my mate got hit by one of them.

I was there for the defeat at Harlow and the win at Liverpool.

Couple of mates and I were out the Harlow ground sharpish the minute the whistle blew and unfortunately ran into a group of their lads (could have been Spurs) we dodged most of them but about 6 or so gave chase. We ended up hiding behind bins in a block of nearby flats, they ran up the stairs, we ran like crazy back to the car. Then had to sit in the car whilst getting out of town with fake smiles plastered on our gobs as they were checking cars for miserable Leicester fans.

Managed to talk another 4 into going to Liverpool with a line like “We will be able to boast in the future that we were there when we got spanked by 6 goals, may even have said 10).

The scousers applauded our boys off and then turned and whilst many then applauded the Leicester fans who had made the trip some of them launched anything they could lay their hands on at us, mate got hit by a lump of concrete.

Made our way back to where the car was parked in Stanley Park and dozens of the ****ers came charging down the road (again we were near the front and were crapping ourselves). BS boys stepped forward and screamed at everyone to ‘hold don’t run’.

The scousers thankfully backed off and disappeared.

Our vivid lime green van overheated a mile or so down the road and two of us had to go into a pub to ask for water to top it up.

It was like athat scene from An American Werwolf in London. I was the only one who would go back in a second time to get more water. One of the locals asked if all my mates had bottled it and left it to me, “what ****ing mates I replied?”. “You’re alright kid,

crack on”.

I was still somewhat relived when the va started and we got the hell out of the city.

We had fans absolutely everywhere. The programme seller in the ground had his wares thrown all over the place. Mate of mine picked up a load and went off down the side and opposite end selling them to Leicester fans.

All the roads around the ground were full of Leicester fans on the piss, supermarkets and shops most have thought it was Xmas.

the pic by my name shows me amongst the crowds waiting to climb the fence.

I managed to get a plod truncheon across the arm as I got on the pitch.
