We want to know what you make of the breaking news that, from next season, the Championship play-offs will be expanded to include the teams finishing seventh and eighth?

It was announced on Thursday morning that EFL clubs voted in favour of expanding the play-offs from four to six teams.

The new system will mirror the format used in the National League and means teams finishing from third to eighth will compete for promotion to the Premier League.

Clubs finishing third and fourth will progress directly to the semi-final, while a one-legged quarter final will be played with the side finishing fifth at home to eighth and sixth hosting seventh.

Semi-finals will remain as two legs and the final will still take place at Wembley at the end of May.

It will likely mean more clubs have more to play for going into the final weeks of the season, with fewer 'dead rubber' encounters, but do you think the eighth-best team over the course of a season deserves a shot at the Premier League.

No problem either. Because the teams finishing 5 and 6th don’t really deserve to be going up anyway, so no big loss if it’s someone from 8th instead of 5th with a shot at it.

I’m sure Top is campaigning for it this season.
The side that finishes 4th from bottom should automatically be in the final.
We promote this season……..

We ain't finishing 4th bottom. Only Sheff Wed will finish below this absolute mess

Pathetic.  No surprises from the Football League there, then.

Why not just include everyone in the division, in a massive playoff tournament at the end of the season?

They should do 3rd place straight to Wembley.

4th plays 7th at home in a one off game.

5th plays 6th at home in a one off game.

highest placed winner of two games plays a one off game at home against the other.

winner of that joins the 3rd placed team at Wembley.

So the teams who finishes 3rd gets a long rest and the biggest advantage.

team who finishes 7th has to win two away games in a row then play a rested 3rd placed team in the final.

Not broken at all so obviously they'll have to try and fix it. Just another safety net.

Eventually the more games = more money idea will die off. Too much of a good thing.

The 7th and 8th placed teams will almost never go up either

all hypothetical I know, but you could argue this gives the team that gets through all those play off games the advantage, as they'll have the momentum after winning, and gives the 3rd place team the disadvantage

Exactly this just like chumps league, more games, more money.

I preferred it before the play offs became a thing, you were promoted on your position end of but play offs gave the leagues 5 more games a season and teams lower down a shot at getting into them and going up. Which is wrong.
