Banks, Shilton, Lineker, Mancini, Cambiasso, were all world class at a time in their careers.

Mahrez, Kante & Vardy were world class whilst playing for us.

We’ve also had some very good players that were elite but not world class and at a certain time whilst playing for us would’ve walked into all but 5/6 teams around Europe - Schmeichel, Pereira, Tielemans.

I've got to disagree with Fofana. As good as he was (that one season), there were still too many moments where his lack of experience shone through. If he hadn't had his injuries, he might have got there but I don't think he's ever been world class.

I agree and I would also go as far as saying Fofana was much better for us than he has been at Chelsea.

World class, for me, is being in the top two in the world in your position at that current time.

When with us:

Kante? Yes, world class DM.

Mahrez? No, multiple players better at the time.

Vardy? No, same as above.

Riccy P? For a brief period I’d say he was world class, brief.

People suggesting Vardy and Mahrez clearly define world class more broadly.

For me its definitively more broad, its if they would get a place in one of the top world teams. England, France, Spain etc.

Surely your definition would be more like best in the world or world's best striker etc

Mahrez definitely was.

I don't think that there is any 'definitely' about it, otherwise he would have been a standout player among other elite players at Man City, which he wasn't.

Kante, Mahrez and Vardy in 15-16, however, the latter two solely on form.

Peak Kante was just a cheat code, and he showed it the next season at Chelsea, then with France in the World Cup and when Chelsea in the champions league. Just an incredibly gifted generational footballer in that role

Absolutely this!

If aliens visited planet Earth and wanted a game of football, who’s in our first eleven!

i think vardy, mahrez and ricardo were very elite, definately, but not world class.

World class gotta be where you are the best in the world in your position. Possibly among another 3-4 Names. Obviously differs from era to era.

Vardy - Better than Kane, lewandowski, ronaldo, benzema, luis suarez?

Mahrez - Better than Messi, robben, neymar, hazard, salah?

Ricardo - Better than carvajal, dani alves, lahm, kimmich?

Don;t get me wrong, not every player listed above could arguably be named world class but that is my point.

apart from Messi i wouldnt swap any of them for Mahrez, whilst he was at leicester. Can't imagine they would of been better for us than he was

Mahrez definitely was, in the history of the Premier League Manchester United Cristiano Ronaldo and Salah are probably the only 2 right wingers that are 100% clear of him.

Everyone else is debatable.

Kante definitely.

Mahrez I'd say was for a season or two with us.

Vardy for that season was absolute dynamite - Goals to chance ratio must have been through the roof and for a period he didn't just finish but it seemed to make about 50% of his goals himself - A uniquely brilliant talent

Many teams compete in the WORLD cup. The team that wins doesnt always have the best player in every position, but the team that wins is quite clearly World Class.

Really its semantics. But to exclude the likes of Vardy who holds god knows how many records is mad. He was world class in his day.

Too early for me but Gary McAllister must have been excellent. He rarely seems to get mentioned but he won everything aside from a Champions League.

He was your definition of world class

Vardy and Mahrez came 5th and 6th in the Ballon Dor list that year. That could be pointed at as recognition that they peaked at a world class level to enable us to win the league.

Id say Vardy was world class at what he did. Id say he was world class anyway, to perform consistently for over a decade at the top level in a smaller club. He was unfortunate the England team had Rooney and Kane in it at that point, I think that Vardy would have done more in big games than either of those 2. Personally a lot of England Strikers have so much hype, largely Rooney and Kanes goals were scored against the likes of Andorra etc.

From what I can gather he left as he knew the clubs finances were a mess and that he wanted to get his wage off the books.

He knew that we were in for many years of financial hardship. Something the board still doesn't admit openly.

The ones apart from Aguero and Kane were well past their best to be fair.

Vardy was also past his best when he played against Cavani and Ronaldo. At the time they were still deemed good enough for their national team.

Van Persie, Falcao he played before his best.
