Yeah that’s a highly weird thing to do. I can assume we think we’re a step above them which isn’t great

I got that impression as well from this, purposely pointing out they are a league 1 team

A trip to face Burton Albion follows on Saturday 18 July, with the squad visiting Pirelli Stadium for a 1pm kick-off against the League One side.

Very few friendlies against teams in same division are ever hosted domestically. Shite pre season tournaments abroad different story. Dont think we’ve ever done this in the 40 years I’ve been following them.

Why does it even matter what division the opposition is in? It’s a preseason friendly.

I’m perplexed with that, Burton? In the same league.. have we ever done that before?

Pretty sure we played multiple Premier League teams in friendlies when we were up there.

Granted they were abroad and more like exhibition matches but still.

Lots of PL teams since our PL win we've played, in those overseas tournaments that are pretty pointless in terms of prepping for a season...

Are we competing dor the Bass Charity Vase against Burton?

Even if playing a team from the same division isn't ideal, players look back at their success by looking at the medals they win.  This has potential to be a great confidence boost after a few grim years.

Perhaps a reason to get the open top bus out again? Bring the fans and the club closer together!

Literally no downside to this (unless we lose).

Looks like last time we played a team in the same division in pre-season was West Brom and also Liverpool in 2017 in the Premier League Asia Trophy

Looks to be the only time in the last 15 years or so

How many times have people said “why does this matter” over the years and - in fact - it has mattered?

It’s a bizarre thing to do, to me this smacks as if LCFC proposed this prior to when it was apparent we would be relegated - such is their lack of foresight

No Burton are playing Derby for that.

I’ve seen a burton fan suggest that it’s a sign they’ve sold Webster to us, and it’s part of that deal.

99% likely to be tin foil hat, but who knows

Do the twats realise we are in League 1 as well?

Have they realised yet?

I think the point is more we would be arranging this fixture 4-5 years ago to wheel out big Premier League players for a lower league club to get a bit of revenue.

We'll have far worse reminders of how far we have fallen than that, but each time they pop up it just makes me livid that we've all allowed it to happen.
