LeePhilpottsBaldSpot Posted 29 August Posted 29 August I really didn't want him appointed but now he is I'll give him a chance. Right to criticise the bad results but I won't be calling for his head until we're at least 10 league games into the season and the squad is settled.
Reynaldo Posted 29 August Posted 29 August End of the day what cost us and will continue to cost us is that we don’t not have a registered striker on the books. Imagine that, a professional club that doesn’t employ anyone who is paid to put the ball in the back of the net. I mean, it’s literally a step down from not having a goalkeeper and playing an outfield player in goal every week. 4
sdb Posted 29 August Posted 29 August 26 minutes ago, Claudio Fannieri said: I honestly think he is getting the brunt of the frustration that is a hangover from the previous seasons and really should be directed at others who are responsible and accountable for where we find ourselves. I will say it again up to 7 need to go and 4 minimum need to come in and one has to be a starting CB and one has to be a proven striker that is not on Martin. There's no way we shift 7 in a few days and even less chance we sign hungry, talented players with sufficient experience. Our recruitment has been tragic for years and that includes a time when we had choice. A bang average manager has this team on 7+ points at this stage of the season. 3 1

Rusko187 Posted 29 August Posted 29 August 1 hour ago, Cincinnati Fox said: It shit at the moment but at least he has a plan, not a plan that I think works unless you have very good players, and he may die on that hill but It looks to me like the players are behind him rowett, marti, rvn, cooper just seemed to say go and do whatever you want lads I will say that for him which I like. I never wanted the guy and I think it’s a mistake to play possession football in this league, but at least there’s a clear directive from the manager to the players. You can’t sack him yet though, 4 games into a season isn’t enough time. Plus I doubt we have the funds to part with him.
Joe90 Posted 29 August Posted 29 August I know it’s 3 games but we could sit 21st tomorrow! We should blasting teams away scoring at least 2/3 goals a game with the opposition we are facing this is disgraceful get him gone 2
Groby_Blue Posted 29 August Posted 29 August 1 hour ago, Claudio Fannieri said: I understand the frustrations but I think he deserves longer than this, also the squad is still very much a work in progress, there is at least another 6, 7 even 8 players who need to leave and we desperately need 3 or 4 new signings including another starting CB and a starting striker who is capable of bagging 15-20 goals this season. I am sure Martin would love the transfer business to have been done and dusted before the season kicked off but unfortunately for whatever reason, it’s going to go down to the wire on Tuesday to try and get rid of the deadwood and plug the glaring gaps in the squad…… can McCarron and Rudkin get the necessary work done in the next 3 and a half days, the clock is ticking. I get this and normally I would agree. Pretty much any new manager needs time. But it's Russell Martin we're talking about here. It's been the same everywhere he's been and there's no signs that anything is going to change. As someone above posted, we could be in the bottom three tomorrow. That's simply unacceptable for any manager but for a manager with a record of nothing but mediocrity and failure, it should be terminal. I'd never have appointed him in the first place and I don't want him anywhere near us but I really don't see him going anywhere soon. We've been a hire and fire club for two seasons before this one and it hasn't worked. I don't think the board have got the stomach for another managerial search. This was a shit or bust appointment and we all know which way it's going to go. 3

CrispinLA in Texas Posted 29 August Posted 29 August I think he given Leicester a great watchable style but we haven't got a good striker
sdb Posted 29 August Posted 29 August 23 minutes ago, danny2997 said: Again, did they hire themselves? Well they put themselves forward for a job they were entirely unqualified for. No one is saying the owners and DOF aren't to blame too, but the managers we hire have no shame. Although maybe that's the job description!
Lcfcbl Posted 29 August Posted 29 August For all the negativity, I think we absolutely dominated today(as you'd expect us to), I like how the wingers kept the width despite Burns and Watson having off days. The shape looked decent. The biggest frustration I had was the chop back consistently by multiple players even when we had a bit of momentum. It's either lack of confidence or by instruction and if it's the latter, that's where I would worry about Martin.

If we hired a good manager we'd have a decent chance of winning some football matches one day. You're both right, really. Our managerial appointments have been symptomatic of the problems at the club, and as such they've reflected the poor decision-making at all levels. When you work for any sort of organisation which is in trouble, one of the first things you tend to notice is that you have a lot of the wrong people in the wrong jobs. Their mandate, their remit, isn't what it should be from the off, and even if it were, they're not the right people to pull it off under the circumstances. Even with Maresca, a good manager who did what he was brought in to do, there was no viable long-term plan in the way there had been in 2014. It'd be wrong for us to give KP a pass on that one on the grounds that he's competent, and now a very high profile manager. In contrast, the rest - Smith, Cooper, Ruud, Marti and Rowett - were, of course, quite straightforwardly poor appointments. And yet, as regards managers' success elsewhere, every single one of them had enjoyed some degree of relative success before they came to us. They'd all done well at times in their careers, even Ruud and Marti, so when you get to the stage where 5, 6 or 7 managers - with differing styles and backgrounds - all fail at a club which has other obvious problems going on, it's a bit of a stretch to say we simply need to get better at appointing our bosses. All that said, the board have made their choice once more, and even if it seems predictably clear to us that it'll end up the same way as all the others, it's still very early in the season. There were clear improvements today, and we may well be in a situation a week from now when the more 'kneejerk' fans are crowing about how wrong we were to ever doubt Martin. That, of course, would be every bit as daft as writing them off now. Even promotion may, as in 2024, prove another false dawn under these owners. The best approach, perhaps, is not to get too excited one way or the other over who our manager is while KP are in charge. Even though, chances are, they're not very good. 1

Clear obvious connections and examples in interviews where he said he met said players months before joining us. Either way that transfer budget is a significant advantage compared to the rest of the division and now it’s been cited as a disadvantage cos we’ve gotta let player settle in an absolute critical season. If the aim was pure development this season, we shouldn’t have been signing the likes of McCarthy and Burns
BKLFox Posted 29 August Posted 29 August 2 hours ago, PaddyS said: Well I hope you're right, but Top is in love with this type of football. He's on record as saying it's 'clear it's the way to go' (or something like that), and they were chasing RM for ages. So if he goes, is there anyone else to come in to play Top's type of football? I have no idea, but there can't be many managers out there who would do it, so they might just stick with him and claim it's a 'long term plan' cos they won't know what else to do. I could give you 4 others that play the same style as RM & another 6 or so that have an adaptation of the style but will always start from the back that’s 10 managers from Lge 1 alone….what is this perception fans and the papers have that it’s only Pep & Martin that play a possession & out from the back football style 🤷♂️
Corky Posted 29 August Posted 29 August Had a full pre-season. New signings including former players. No points deduction looming. A gentle fixture list. Other managers in the past two years, however crap, had these excuses. 4
sylofox Posted 29 August Posted 29 August Let's be honest Top wants out and has no money. Do we really think he's going to sack Martin and pay him off? I just don't see Martin gone before we get new owners. 1
