Leicester City manager Russell Martin says that he expects more players to follow Conor Chaplin and Alex McCarthy to the club before the first game of the season against Notts County.

Chaplin and McCarthy signed for the Foxes on free transfers last week to strengthen Martin's squad. The pair are the only new arrivals at the King Power Stadium, with several first-team players departing.

The transfer window closes in over five weeks time but City's 2026/27 League One season will kick-off in just over three weeks time. Leicester are in desperate need of a new striker and could be forced to strengthen their centre-back options if they lose the likes of Harry Souttar, Wout Faes or Ben Nelson.

 

Speaking after City's 1-0 win over Cadiz in Spain on Wednesday, Martin outlined the club's transfer plans and stressed the importance of not rushing into bringing players in. "I think there will be a lot happening between now and the end of the transfer window," he said.

"People will leave, people come. I’ve been in a situation at Southampton before after relegation, you can’t get too stressed or anxious or being in a rush to do things, it has to be the right time for us.

"I expect us to have one or two faces before the first game for sure, at least, and the squad will look different.”

He added: “We’re really calm and really clear because we have real clarity on who we want, what we want and why we want it. The most important category is that people want to come here and play and are desperate to be part of something and help us be successful.

"I think it’s really difficult to say it’s going to be a player this day, but in the next couple of weeks, I expect to have players in to help us and I’ll probably expect one or two to go out as well.

"But things in football can change very quickly. We’re excited about the business that we’ve done already, how much they’re going to us and we’re excited about what we can do and what we’re hoping to do.”

Welcoming new signings during the tour of Spain hasn't been ruled out, but Martin has admitted that it seems unlikely right now. He said: “If it’s the right time, we’ll get them over. I don’t know if we’ll see any this week being really honest, but it’ll be nice if we can.”

Clearly wants to keep some positivity going into the new season, 4 pre season games won, why splash some negativity on it (even if it might be the case we don’t get new faces in). Maybe there are players lined up and ready to go, much like dominoes when one falls they all do eventually.

To be fair to him he's been very professional since he arrived and that's a big inprovement in itself.

 

At least the squad will be fit to compete when the season starts and he has won the friendlies todate, Unlike that clown Cooper who said results didn't matter.

I think Rodgers’ Leicester team was arguably as good as the won that won the league. Not sure what went wrong, but pre covid we looked nailed on for a Champions League position. Rodgers isn’t full of shit.

Rodgers was unlikeable from the off, I remember an interview question around why Leicester, his response being along the lines of its a job and the club matched his ambitions. I remember thinking at the time that this bloke wasn't even going to attempt to love the club or fan base, he didnt feel like someone who should be leading 'my' (our) club.

 

I was never as against the RM appointment as others were on here, equally, while its been a positive preseason so far I'm reluctant to judge. Easy to say the right things while results dont mean anything, but he does seem to care, that's something after the last bunch of clowns.

Rodgers for the first 2 years played some of the best football we have ever played. Yes we ran out of steam twice and should have played Champions League, however you can underestimate how good that time was.

 

I still persist if he leaves after the defeat to Forest in the FA Cup, then he is viewed in a far different light on here. He’d go down as one of most successful coaches ever.

 

Him staying hurt his reputation really.
