France could end up playing Germany, Netherlands and then Spain in the run through to a final

I'd only really fancy the Netherlands out of those three, the other two are a shadow of their former selves, especially Germany.

Spain have been really poor too - they've more or less sleepwalked out of their under-strength group thanks to Uruguay deciding to be the token "way worse than anyone expected" team this tournament.

They may find Spain tricky, but l expect them to comfortably beat the other 2.

Ecuador in the Ro16 if we make it that far, is a scary prospect. Exactly the time of team this England setup will struggle against. That game is in the Azteca too, so at altitude and in the heat.

So it’s Senegal or DR Congo for us .

Prefer the latter .

So long as we win the group .

What determines it? If DR Congo win their third game, do we play them?

From what I can see, if DRC wins their last game we will play them, if they draw or lose we will play Senegal.

Some other possible complexities with other games but those are the two most likely outcomes (assuming the Athletics predictor is correct, I put in obvious results like Argentina beating Jordan and assuming us topping the group).

Yes—it seems we could also play Algeria or Austria if we win the group:

Yeah, I just put expected results of the remaining games into the the athletics free tool and the only combo of results I could get with us playing Congo were if they won that game, and Senegal were most likely opponents if Congo drew or lost. Very small chance it could be Algeria.

I dont know why people do that as if its a big surprise, it clashes happens every 2 years with big football tournaments lol

And they put stuff on the IPlayer etc but people seem to find it hard to understand how to use that .

I think there are some who literally rely on a TV guide use 3 channels and expect everything to be as normal without any changes .

God forbid Eastenders not be on one night !

I’ve written the expected temps against the fixtures

doubt the Dutch will be looking forwards to playing Morocco in 34c

the Croatians would have preferred cooler temps to play a high tempo against Portugal

Cape Verde will probably sit back anyway v Argentina

colombia v Ghana could be quite a tactical game in that heat

Not too bad for you english ending on the side without the other big european nations. Probably facing Brazil or Norway in the quarters and then probably Argentina in the semis. Could have been far worse.

France vs Germany in the round of 16 already looks tasty.

Also Portugal and Spain might be clashing in round of 16 too.

Argentina's route looks really easy or we will have the big world cup surprise from that end of the brackets.

Anyway. Now the world cup really starts.

It'll be strange only having one match today.

But...it's a big one! :D

Hoping to finally see Phonz on the pitch today. The fact that we are in the knockouts and haven't had to use him is pretty great.

how is it right Germany and Paraguay only find out their opponent at 6:30am on Sunday and have to fly and be ready to play 8/9pm Monday?

Tough on paraguay -( Germany have known where they’re playing since end game 2)

suppose that’s the price of finishing third

Good luck against Sarfafrica! Netherlands next pretty much a given (unless Morocco pull off yet another surprise).

I can barely manage to stay awake for one match lol Times seem a bit better now bar the odd few
