It is mad how clubs further down the pyramid have to be so tight and controlled on their finances while those at the top spend freely.

its like Villa, they have been doing so well and theyve had to flog a number of their players just to stop getting fines etc

Agreed! All rules were brought in place to protect the top 6. Laws were changed post our league win, post Newcastle new ownership. 
the top 6 all signed to joined a new league and yet they are still so favoured. 

Top 6 clubs get away with anything. 
everton points deduction, Leicester, Nottingham forest. No issue with any deduction. But nothing for Chelsea and man city apart from a fine. They spend 200 million per transfer window and only consequence is a fine. Vastly unfair to the league. 
Villa have to sell, yet sours can spend 200 and apparently all is fair.

Yup and think where Spurs finished in 2 consecutive seasons! It's just ridiculous. The teams I feel for at the moment are Villa and Newcastle. They are so restricted in what they can do, yet Chelsea, Spurs and Man City can do what they want. 

 

Crystal Palace won the DA cup and Europa conference league, yet can't spend what others do.

So unfair for all other clubs apart from the top 6.

spurs going to spend close to 300 million this summer, add wages is no issue. Yet Villa and Newcastle have to sell just to spend. Can never improve or challenge. 
 

Palace did excellent as you said. And still have to sell just to spend. 
 

shows what a top manager Emery is. Brendan as a coach was very good, but he downed tools when didn’t get what he wanted. He played a huge role in our demise.

I agree entirely rules are an absolute mess, however Spurs make a fortune from the concerts, NFL and boxing events they hold at their stadium. Commercially they are superb. 

 

Yes we can bemoan PSR as fundamental to our demise, but let’s not pretend that we are a commercially savvy club, we had so many missed opportunities to be innovative, creative new streams of commercial revenues, instead we built a 100m training ground and whilst signing sponsorship deals with betting/crypto sites like FBS and BC Game. Our commercial operations have been lazy and uninspiring, very little creative thinking or innovation. Whereas Spurs despite being bang average at best on the pitch, are arguably best in class off the pitch. 
 

In short had we shelved the training ground and proceeded with the stadium expansion, hotel, arena etc I think we would be in a very different place commercially and financially as a club and this is coming from someone who actually appreciates Seagrave as a world class facility, however as a club we needed to increase commercial revenues to create more PSR headroom, then further down the road build the new training ground.

The top 6 get away under PSR mess because their commercial revenues give them ability to, everyone else is playing catch up. Growing the club commercials is now just about the most important thing as you can't grow the squad without good commercials. You hit a ceiling like we did, Villa and Newcastle are struggling with.
