England vs Argentina - Weds 11th July - 20.00 (BST)

Think we'll nick it, really do.  They Aren't the Argentina of 4 years ago.

Messi is a passenger, many of the others are 4 years older and not better, They struggled against Cape Verde, possibly should have lost to Egypt, took 120 mins to beat 10 man Switzerland, they are on a par with us. this game is TOTALLY winnable IF we play fairly well or dog it out again.  Our 1st team match up man for man against theirs, I mean cmon they have Romero at the back and Martinez.  We concede and win in my mind

BBC thoughts on the Swiss game:

Argentina analysis: Firepower tells despite another underwhelming showing

For the third successive match, Argentina earned a chaotic win with an underwhelming performance despite starting the match as clear favourites.

You can’t write anyone off, especially with the players they have, however as the tournament has progressed I feel they’ve gotten less convincing. England are more than capable of beating them, just got to play the game and not the occasion.

Really can't call it. I'm a natural pessimist football wise. Past games have no bearing. Just hope England can do it. Have to stop myself from thinking how marvellous it would be if we won the whole damn thing. Mind I was like this in 2016 and 2021 and that didn't turn out too badly. If we do go out just hope not because of something stinky

What is the correlation between 2016 and 2021 here? One was the most embarrassing exit in the country's history and we were narrowly beaten finalists in the other?

I can imagine the Argentina game will be similar to the Mexico game although the ref didn't get much wrong that night but it will have that feel and Argentina will jump around and cry about every descsion, it's not going to be an easy watch imo.

Don't only support England do we? How about Premier League and FA Cup. I remember 1966 and didn't ever think Leicester would win both before England grabbed another title

Forgive me, given this is an England thread, the opening remarks in your post referenced England, and given they were international tournament years  I jumped to the outrageous conclusion you were talking about England.

Not to worry. Sorry for the confusion. Just combining my Leicester emotional ride with England

Sometimes, you know, you're a right snarky shit.

I remember  in the hand of god game how much the Argies loathed England because of the Falklands war.

Wonder if that hatred is diluted over time or if its still there.

There fans are a different level of passion to anyone so hope tensions dont boil over because of non footballing  issues

It's still very much on there minds, seen a couple of fights already one in the stadium and one in Miami, don't think it will be pleasent should be a good atmosphere though.

They were still singing about England and England fans in their last game vs Switzerland 🤣 suspect that bit of needle will still be there in this game, from players and fans

Wonder how much 2 hours in the Miami heat has taken out of many of the players in addition to the travelling to and from Mexico with the altitude..

possible that our supposed physical advantage of youth may be tempered by this.

At least it’s inside so if we are fit enough, then no reason why we can’t ‘suffocate’ them

I doubt they will do much training over the next few days those that have played in both games but should be fine with some rest

How weird of a person do you have to be to see the greatest footballer of all time get excited about playing your country in the world cup semi final and your first thought is imagining some fictional Scottish people in your head are upset about it.

The internet has really done a number on some people hasn't it.
