He should be backup. We all assumed that when it was announced. To see him number 1 is a shock.

For me, Stolarczyk should be backup and we should have brought in an actual competent goalkeeper as it's a vital position and a position we needed.

To sign a 36 year old and Blackpool's third choice goalkeeper was yet another stupid move from the club. We haven't improved the position.

Jobs for the lads. He's Russell's mate.

I have never seen such a slow stiff goal keeper. He like even dives in slow motion. He can't use his feet only to pass to the opposition. Ffs I don't want to see him start another game unless we're desperate. Jacob is a far better option.

He was slow to get down for that first goal right? I'm not being unfair? (and the defending was terrible), but the shot was on the edge of the box. He's got to get a finger tip on that, as its not like it come off the post or anything.

Really thought this was a backup, even on a free there were far far better options. Either start Stol or sell him and buy a new starter, absolutely no use for him to be sat around on our bench except his value depreciating every week

Going down for the save his arms shrank into mini Pickfords.

100%. I thought the same in the ground but I thought I might be being biased because he's so f***ing old but I watched it back and yeah. He barely moves.

He is dogshit, another nonsensical signing from the club, bring in a bloke who is mates with the manager who is also shit. Then bring in another honker as 3rd choice. May as well have kept the 2 we had. These guys have never been good keepers, at least Vietes play for a reasonably decent Spanish side. The club seems to sign on a perceived ability to play it out from the back, even if the players are utterly shit at everything else.

Painfully average, and made to look worse by the Russelball tax. Absolutely baffling to bring in a player the wrong side of 35 to play it out from the back.

Possibly a hot take but I think he's made a few decent claims from set pieces and I have more confidence in him in those situations than Jakub, who has always looked piss-weak in such situations. But anywhere else - whether 1-on-1s or suitability for this suicidal style of play we're forced to endure - and he's worse.

Why do we bother signing people that are semi retired.

Reminds me of the time Pearson signed Schwarzer re the Great Escape season, he wasn't great!

Absolutely hideous that he's come in and is our number 1.

A 36 year old who can't play with his feet in a Russell Martin pass pass pass team

It's down right ludicrous for the club and Martin to sign a keeper who can't play the possession passing game.

We then bought another keeper in the Blackpool lad who won't even even see the bench...We will never learn.

He didn't use his feet.

The ball hit the net with no pace on it.

For me a top class keeper saves it

On one hand McCarthy is a modern day Dave Beasant. A big keeper with a massive mistake always on the way.

On the other hand he’s a veteran version of Danny Ward - he lets in goals he really should save AND has a massive mistake always on the way.

To be fair, Danny Ward would not have dived. Just stood there with his hands over his head....or if he dived it would be away from the ball and probs in opposite direction. Then screaming F*** off to his defence
