Bizarre performance from one half to the next.

It's one of the weirdest games I've seen a goalkeeper have. Absolute mess in the first half on the ball. But he made some pretty good saves in the second. I just find it so peculiar a manager who is so hellbent on playing this way, who has had him before, chose to make this signing when he's so obviously not right for it.

 

Just a really odd situation all round.

Credit to either him or RM for making the choice to stop messing about with it at the back. Second half he was fantastic and wasn't bothered about booting it away from goal.

 

In his defense, he came on in the first minute and the defenders kept giving him daft passes before he had chance to settle in. Hopefully everyone learns from that (management especially) and he'll get some good confidence from tonight.

Shot stopping, especially the last one was sensational but we can't be playing Pepball with him in goal. It's not his fault he's shit with his feet that's what he's being asked to do but you can see why Martin dropped him at Southampton too. We'll get caught out by sides better than Plymouth doing that.

His pass to Thomas in the 6 yard box is genuinely the worst decision I have ever seen a footballer make. 

 

He had so much time to decide against it. Genuinely stunned by it.

He's a really good goalkeeper when it comes to shot stopping, he needs to use his experience to say to Russell there are times I can't do what you want me to do and I need to go long.

 

Even pep let his keeper do it when the situation called for it

Just not his passing ability. You would have thought Martin would know he can't pass out from the back, when that is how we were going to play.

Well, what can you say after last night. Yes he can't play the  ball out without giving it away, we've established that. But he kept us the 3 points in that second half. Credit where it's due.

Some of his passing was shocking but at the end of the day he is a goalkeeper and made some decent saves to keep us in the game.

What was exceptionally baffling was that pass he made to Luke Thomas while he was marked inside his own 6 yard box. One of the craziest decisions I have ever seen a goalkeeper make.

 

I am 100% all for playing out of the back. It's the best way to attack IMO. However, there is surely no harm every now and then in admitting that a press has beaten you and just putting your foot through it. If we can figure that out then we'll be fine but I doubt we will.

 

It invites pressure onto a team that's clearly shitting themselves every time they play at home and worries a crowd that is only ever one goal away from losing their shit. I just wish that every now and then we took the safer option of booting it.

 

I know we're in League 1 so it's little use pointing it out but Souttar was signed to be a Premier League player and Alex McCarthy and Luke Thomas have played hundreds of Premier League games between them. If we played like that against an effective Premier League press we'd have conceded about 19 goals in the first 20 minutes.

I don't think that any Leicester player has the right to dictate how players are treated by fans. The ironic cheering is simply a display of the absolute loathing of this style of play by Leicester fans. No Leicester fan wants to see Luke Thomas receive the ball in his own 6 yard box while facing his own goal. There's no world where that was the right decision but it's a situation we've put our defenders into hundreds of times in the last few seasons. Fans are rightly pissed off by that.

 

Every Leicester fan at the game would tell you the same about McCarthy's performance. Shit with his feet but great with his hands. I'm also sure that that's how McCarthy would describe himself as a footballer because he's a goalkeeper and not Paul Scholes. It's about time the club recognised that.

His poor feet weren't helped by not being in the right headspace at the start, but he obviously proved his goalkeeping abilities by the end.
