Duh, obviously but how likely is it?

Who is buying a 37 year old keeper on 20k pw? You could maybe loan him out but clubs aren’t going to pay 100%.

You just let him go for free to a Prem team as 3rd choice

In that case give him a year, it's totally standard to give a keeper in their late 30s a year only. If he doesn't like it - move on to the next target.

We're in survival mode, financially. I'm not against this signing but a 1 year deal with an optional second year would make more sense. If he doesn't agree to it? Fair enough, enjoy Fleetwood.

Surely Vietes is trying to leave? He's a weird one because we know nothing about him and I'm still not sure I could pick him out of a crowd but he must rather be somewhere else.

Not happy with contract size but going to sit on the fence with this one and see how it goes.

Remember all the older goalkeepers we've had over the past few decades?

Schmeichel? Schwarzer? Ricardo? Warner? Pressman? Flowers?

Flowers wasn’t that old, and other than Kasper all those were rubbish!

Why would he? He's somehow made a career out of not playing football

Can tell it's a long time since I've bought one from the shop. £70!? lol

Mental isn't it. I'd have bought it if it was in and around the £40-£50 range.

Pickford, Allison, Ederson, Kasper all in their 30's.......36 is not old for a goalkeeper.

Kasper retiring at 39

Allison is 34, 36 for a L1 goalkeeper is perfectly fine tbh!

Are you really talking about Allison in the same breath as McCarthy? 😂. Kasper has been finished for years, Celtic fans used to lay into him every week

No one over 30 should be getting anymore more then a 1 year deal. One of the reasons why the club is in a mess

Fine theory but doesn't work in practise. You end up with no experience and those that have been here for long enough kick off.

Chelsea tried it and it ****ed them over for a while. You need experienced players that are comfortably and settled in. Only happens if you back them with contracts.

I'm not saying it's right that McCarthy should get a 2 year deal mind.

Ah fantastic,  another resident at the Seagrave retirement home.

Hopefully we can get Ings over the line in time for bingo tomorrow night.

Also means that when they are dogshit (and ours 99 percent of the time are), that we arent lumbered with them on the wage bill

Our biggest ever successes were built around players over 30.

Morgan, Huth, Fuchs, Schmeichel, Vardy, Evans, Simpson, Albrighton etc

Majority of them were signed before they were 30. Its a bit different offering current players contracts extensions where their ability is proven, as appose to complete new signings

It’s one thing players getting older in a squad another signing for a last pay cheque in league 2

Vardy 25

Kasper 24

Fuchs 29

Simpson 27

Albrighton 24

Morgan 28

All given new deals in their 30s. Except maybe Simpson I think.

My point is they would have all ****ed off if we were only offering 1 year extensions.

But they had sort of earned new contracts with solid performances over a number of years for the club. But I also think you have a point on the length of contract - players like some sort of security of more than a year.

I meant signing players not contract extensions. Vast majority of players we’ve signed over 30 in recent years have been shit and unsellable

Absolutely they earned them and they would have kicked off if they had only been offered a year, especially when bigger clubs offering bigger wages would have signed them up on 2/3 year deals.
