Having done a bit of research into Burns, who I'd never heard of. He should be an asset if he keeps fit. He should be good for a goal or 3.

While Leicester's average salary is roughly three times higher, their commercial value is over ten times greater than the majority of League One clubs. Annually, Leicester pulls in between £33 million and £35 million in commercial revenue, whereas most League One clubs bring in just £2.5 million to £3 million.

Our running cost excluding player salaries are too though.

No comparing but it's like comparing Man Utd in the prem to Burnley. Thats why Man Utd etc can have high running costs to all the other teams

Man U are not staring administration in the face in the 3rd tier of English football.

 

I'm not against this as others. I would sooner have seen a shorter deal. However, it sounds like the actual fee is very low and if we go up this season then as still think the player provides value in the Championship.

I think you need ti relax and chill with it all.

 

This squad is miles clear compared to 98% of the teams. We will go up this season easy and then the real work will begin next season.

100% which is why it’s important to try and remain level headed when they sign. 
 

But I understand the irrational thinking because as a fanbase we can’t remember the last time where an older player turned out to be worthwhile -

The last few have been horrific deals, then you throw in the fact that people want the youth to play a massive part this season ( understandably) , the uncertainty is valid in my eyes- but the writing off a player before they’ve kicked a ball I can’t always understand. 

Also, we’re quick to point out the cons of signings when they get linked/sign, Wes Burns has a lot of pros too and I think he’ll be good for us this year, whether he’ll be able to do it if we get back up remains to be seen

Consider the players (and wages) we've got rid of too. I think it's been fine so far. Only thing I would have really liked is someone guaranteed 15+ goals (last time we had Fryatt for that) but as long as all positions chip in I think we'll be fine. I am optimistic going into this season.

He's a 32 year old man that isn't a particularly stand out player in the league above us, that we're looking to get back to, who has a poor injury record and will be 35 by the time the contract expires.

But this actual deal? It's just more honking, short sighted business.

Could be an exceptional player for us in League One. Yes I get it's a long contract for a player of his age, but we need promotion and he'll help us achieve it.

To me these signings all suggest they know it's win or bust in terms of promotion this season. It's a kick it down the road mentality that we have seen too many times. All be it, not as severe as the approach under Enzo which was unbelievably destructive looking back. 

 

We are still operating just to keep a manager we think is too good for us happy. Then we can't sustain it and end up pissing him off.

They had that approach to the Championship season under Enzo and it resulted in League One. 

 

I'm not saying it's not that but there are surely ways in which we can avoid signings like this and still go up. 

 

Let's hope they have finally got it right.

It a bit of a circular argument, but 15k a week is fine for a backup player in the Championship, so if he gets us up this season and plays a bit part role for 2 years while being a good leader in the squad he will be fine.  if he doesn't get us up this season, he will be good next season as well.
