Perhaps it's enough that it's not Thomas. I dunno. Yeah it’s exactly that. I don’t rate Thomas as a footballer at all, so it would be anyone but him 5 1

ARM1968 Posted 12 August Posted 12 August Think this will be a draw or an odd goal loss. We are NOT in a great position and Brussel is NOT the messiah. 1

MacFarlane only had to be appalling to be a net improvement for the team. And somebody, anybody!, needs only to weigh over 5 stone and able to cleanly kick a football to upgrade on Bob 1

Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 12 August Posted 12 August This is the first season for ages I know literally nothing about opposition players, but we need to watch out for their striker - assuming unlike us they have a settled one and haven’t had to get one through the door in the last few days.

Dan Posted 12 August Posted 12 August (edited) Good first acid test for Martin this is. How many of Bob, Thomas and Mavididi miss out over Bristric, McFarlane and Watson. If it's 3/3, well done, good start. If it's 2/3, I can reluctantly accept. 1/3 is strike one. 0/3 *would be removed by admin* Edited 13 August by Dan 1 2

Pliskin Posted 13 August Posted 13 August (edited) I think they will just want it more. First home game in back league one, a recent PL champion on their arse…. I’ve seen enough in pre season to be worried, as Nigel F Pearson once said, “we’ve a soft underbelly” that still hasn’t been addressed, on paper it look like we’ve recruited fairly well for this level, but I’m not convinced at all. I don’t think we will do well at all this season, there’s a grit missing that you badly need at this level, we don’t play with enough conviction to make this style work, everything seems a bit lazy and laboured. We look a lot fitter though than we have recently, so that’s something, but I seriously worry about the resolve in this squad. Edited 13 August by Pliskin 2
Fosse93 Posted 13 August Posted 13 August I think we’re going to have a slow start here, and to the season in general. Can see us losing a few matches early doors. I do however expect us to pick up eventually, similar to how Southampton’s season under RM in the championship played out. I also think a slow start would result in panic at board level and there’ll be a flurry of activity towards the end of the window with potentially a bit of money being spent. Just to reaffirm that it really is shit or bust time with regards to achieving promotion this season.
Staff Posted 13 August Posted 13 August Just feel like we are completely unprepared like every year. Not made enough changes early enough in the window, still lumbered with loads of shit that aren't good enough or dont want to be here. Really want to be be optimistic but the fact the likes of hamza, faes and mavadidi are still here has taken it all away from me. We've signed 2 goalkeepers ffs, theres more important positions to recruit than getting Martins bum chum in from Blackpool who will literally not play a minute. This seasons going to be bleak
coolhandfox Posted 13 August Posted 13 August (edited) People are talking as if Nott C are a settled side, roughly 13 in and 13 out. Was always going to be a crazy off season. Edited 13 August by coolhandfox

Yeah but it’s almost 10 years to the day since we lost to a newly promoted Hull side who could barely field an 11 and had their tea lady on the bench, in the first match defending our premier league title. Leicester City do Leicester City things. (I hear you btw, it’s just not giving me much comfort) 1

But this is league 1 and 2…. Turn overs of 12-13 players is normal, so it’s something they will be used to. Plus, they’re a seasoned lower league team, so the player profiles they will target, will be suited to their position and style. Whereas we still think we are a premier league team, and still place players playing for us who don’t want to be here…. So it’s unlikely we will shift into the competitive mentality, like last season. The hiring of Martin, just proves that mentality hasn’t shifted. Some are getting a bit giddy, but I can’t see any change at all….

We couldn’t have two better opening fixtures. These pair are the two weakest teams by some distance in L1 according to people who know the division better than me 3

Could we lose, yes, you can lose any game. But we are as likely win as Nott C if not more. How can a team be seasoned when they have swapped out 28 players. Edited 13 August by coolhandfox 1
