A Grade A standard academy thats spent years quietly producing the best youngsters around the midlands and thrn the whole club falls apart and they can be gotten even more easily. Page played nowhere near enough last season, it was cowardice not to play him when Rowett came in. Monga regressed which happens but Page and Aluko were more than capable of more impact on this diabolical team last season. I agree, it about recruiting the right manager, we have had a raft that aren't interested. My approach for the PL season when we got promoted would have been to flood the team with youth. Problem is a weak DOF, managers are going to think short term, the DOF has to be thinking long term and challenging the manager, hopefully we get better under JM. It also about using the loan system well, get them out and get them minutes. 1

Just by means of reminding, we'll probably get about 25m for Page and Monga and that's relatively unheard of for two players that haven't immediately ripped up trees in men's football in the way the likes of Rooney and Bellingham did. Especially for a club in League 1. Yes Page and Monga both looked like good prospects but they're still only that at this stage. 2
Popular Post wardyfox86 Posted 11 August Popular Post Posted 11 August Whilst we're League 1/Championship dross, we need to be picking up the young lads that have been spat out by the likes of Man City, offering them state-of-the-art facilities and a quicker pathway to first team action. You can produce 1 or 2 Darren Motsi's and be disappointed when they leave, but if you're able to snag half a dozen kids that have been shat out the other end when the big clubs steal you're highest potential players, then it's still pure profit once you sell them on. Jayden Joseph could potentially make us more money than anybody who's come through our system since age 6. 6

Exactly my point… Monga - gone page - gone Literally all the others have not technically broken through yet or impacted any competive competition for Leicester. I’m not sure what the argument is here to be fair. Im just disappointed that a lot academy products have either not had the chance or have been sold for figure I deem less than their potential suggests. im just saying, if we had better owners that had not completely ruined us. we would make better use of our academy from both a profit perspective and a path to the first team. not sure how anyone can disagree with that and I find it a depressing position to be in. Imploding the way we have done after building it is a bit of a disaster and arguably makes it a liability rather than an asset. I think some on here are maybe a little unrealistic with the level that we should have a young team but I do think in our position this is the route we need to be looking to go up really. Actually develop a reputation for ourselves as a club it's worth sticking around at until about 18 if nothing else. I mean I've seen people saying get Page back on loan - would he even bother? He isn't even guaranteed to play. ironically he'd be more likely to play if he was on loan here. We seem to have no qualms about loaning in teenagers, but reluctant to play our own

Especially when you consider where we were. The academy is functioning brilliantly. Probably the only thing that is. They have a fantastic training facility and there’s a proven pathway to creating professional footballers including a.demonstrated pathway to Leicester’s 1st team. The fact that our young lads are being poached by the likes of Man City is a compliment of the youth development process. These players would still be poached even if we were in the premier league, such is the pull to young lads and their agents of big 6 club. It is also a process that is wrong. You shouldn’t be just able to do poach from a fellow category 1 youth development club. There should be a set significant compensation fee (£20m?) and significant minimum sell on percentages to ensure the big 6 clubs don’t continue to get away with this poaching. 2

EastAnglianFox Posted 11 August Posted 11 August At what point do the likes of Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool etc not even need an academy? Just send a couple of scouts out to some of our under 18 and below games and let them just cherry pick who they want to sign.
David Hiorns Posted 11 August Posted 11 August Why is there a thread about a child who has never been anywhere a really poorly performing first team. Anyone who wants to go can go. He won’t make a premier league appearance for them

DezFox Posted 12 August Posted 12 August 11 hours ago, Tommy G said: Alves Braybrooke Page Aluko JJ Monga Hamza Chillwell Barnes KDH Luke Thomas Schlupp I don’t mind repeating this, because this list actually proves the point I’m making. Monga — gone. Page — gone. JJ — joined at 19. Then there’s Hamza, who has been stealing a living for years and, frankly, should have left five years ago. I’ll give you Chilwell, Barnes and KDH, but even those examples reinforce my point. We kept them and ultimately sold them for significant profit because we were flying high and the club was in a position where academy players could develop properly and have a genuine pathway into the first team in the prem. That’s exactly the point: when the club is well run and competitive, you don’t have to lose your academy products for cheap every single time. You may lose some, but not all. Luke Thomas - I mean, we all actively want rid of him. We’d arguably be in a better position if he’d never existed. And Schlupp came through about 15 years ago, so I’m not sure how relevant he is to the current situation. Beyond that, most of the names mentioned haven’t actually broken through yet or had any meaningful impact in competitive football for Leicester. (Alves, braybrooke,Aluko) So I’m genuinely not sure what the argument is supposed to be. I’m not saying Leicester’s academy is producing nobody. I’m saying I’m disappointed that so many academy products have either not been given a proper opportunity, been allowed to leave too early, or been sold for figures that don’t reflect their potential. I know the system is not in our favour but ultimately, a large part of it I think that comes back to the mismanagement of the football club. If we had better ownership and hadn’t completely wrecked the position we were in, I genuinely believe we would make much better use of our academy — both in terms of developing first-team players and generating significant transfer revenue from them. The irony is that we’ve already shown this can work. Chilwell, Barnes and KDH are evidence of it. The difference was that we were a well-run, competitive Premier League club with a functioning pathway from the academy to the first team. That’s what makes the current situation so depressing. We’ve gone from being a club where academy players could realistically see a pathway into a successful first team, to one where we’re losing them cheaply or struggling to get them anywhere near the level required. So yes, I’m putting a lot of this at the feet of the ownership and the way the club has been run. I don’t think that’s controversial. It’s a consequence of the position they’ve put us in. And honestly, considering where we were, that’s the depressing part of it all 1

Can't see why he can't be playing at the top of the Premier league in 3-4 seasons.

brookfox Posted 12 August Posted 12 August The only way this gets solved is for the tribunals to start to put realistic values and future payments in place. So if you've developed a player from U9 to U16, a minimum of 40% of any future transfer fee seems reasonable. First team appearance equals £1m, 25+ matches = £5m etc. (just making up numbers). None of us know the tribunal fees but they always sound low when they are leaked and don't match the potential future value of some of these players in the modern age. 3
