Last time we were in League 1 Matty Fryatt had scored a ridiculous amount by Christmas, there was a back to back hattrick in there and you could point at him and say "he has stepped up at this level"

I'm sick of hearing it with our players at the moment - commentator last night for example with Howell "he will be unplayable in L1" (or something along those lines)

My Sunderland supporting mates "Watson is going to light it up for you"

"Chaplin will be good for 20 goals at least"

Who's going to be the one who is actually going get the ball in the back of the net?

We shouldn't be coming away from games saying "we lost but looked so promising" we need some of these to step up and actually take responsibility and use their talent at this level with Martin managing them or not.

Yes, 'Brussell Ball' is a massive barrier and could mean that no one is ever destined to shine under him, but still at this level you'd expect some individual brilliance now and then, a bit like James stepping up last season.

Go on then, which one(s) of you is it going to be?

When I visit this thread at Christmas, which one of you are we going to say stepped up in the end?

Scoring goals was always going to be the issue. I said last month, we went into the previous League One season with Fryatt and Howard and this season we don't have that.

edit: Although I must also say goalscorers at this level were mental last time we were here. Fryatt, Lambert, Cox, Beckford all got 25+ goals across the season.

Look at the amount of assists Howard got! Two upfront with a big strong target man knocking it down for the sublime finisher!

Feels like we're making the game so over complicated at the moment.

I said the exact same in another thread. Seems to me like we're trying to be complicated for the sake of it. We're in the third tier. What I want is someone strong who is able to hold the ball and knock it off to someone who will finish, most teams we come up against are going try and knock us around the pitch. That's why we need someone strong in midfield too.

Defo think we should go back to 2 on top only issue is we have more GK then CF at this club for some reason.

Right now it feels hard to see we'll get more than one player with double figures, let alone 5!

Oakley got far more than I realised.

Gradel was a real disappointment for us. I thought he'd "rip it up" and didn't really.

6 assists is OK and crucial 97th minute direct freekick equaliser away at MK Dons to keep 20+ game unbeaten run alive

He was 'OK' but he'd just scored something like 13 goals at Bournemouth the year before in a side that got relegated at that level, I had pretty high hopes for him.

He did go on to do quite well but always expected a bit more of him when he was here.

This version of Martin is more entrenched, more broken and more zealous when his last two jobs should have taught him something, anything at all.

If you gave him Vardy in his prime - he'd score about 20 goals this season. We're too risk averse and possession is a end rather than a means.

We were largely rubbish under Rowett and we generating 20+ shots per game. We did get lots of shots yesterday but a rotated PL side with nothing to fear is different to what we're up against week-in-week-out now e.g 10 behind the ball and happy with a draw.

I expect we'll have a cluster of players around 10-13 goals in Bristric, Alves, Chaplin and perhaps another. Birmingham blitzed the league points wise but they scored relatively few goals for their tally - with a very similar manager to what we have and a better squad.

He got on Big Nige's naughty step. That normally either ends with lack of game time and a transfer or a headbutt.

Luckily for Max he escaped with no brain damage and had a very decent career.

Ridiculous!

I can think of a few that will get double figures in goals conceded by a mistake.

They were the real glory years. Pearson Howard and Fryatt. I also remember going to a pre match real ale festival pre Huddersfield away. You don’t know you’re living the dream till it’s over.
