A positive day on and off the pitch with the win and clean sheet, reinforcements in such as Riis and Lundstram and getting Mavididi and Skipp out.

 

In terms of the game, it was a polar opposite opposition to MK. We did struggle to play out through their press and need to work on this as any ambitious sides in the league will use this as a blueprint you would think. But going forward, I thought we created genuinely more clear chances than Saturday, took some that arrived and we more expansive, without the gripe I had from Saturday with the congestion around the 18 yard box.

 

I don’t want to be too harsh on Reid. Yes he had 3 good chances but he was in the right place. He’s an experienced player and shown last season that when the chances do come, he can finish. Hopefully signing Riis means not playing him as the striker as he seems more natural in the space behind. 
 

McCarthy for his bombscare playing out, made some great saves to keep us in it. I think Martin will just need to try and find a way to manage the way he wants to play whilst accepting that we don’t quite have the ability to do it around the back.

 

Page was excellent driving forward and Braybrooke very impressive again as was Joseph. Alves much better than Watson was on Saturday. 
 

Just good to get the win monkey off our backs really.

First ten and last ten were very forgettable 

perhaps you can put the first ten down to a reaction to the injury.  I’d be more inclined to see it as an opponent realising how susceptible we are to a high press early on, especially at home.  Too passive and mentally unable to work out that tip tapping around at the back isn’t helping the situation whilst the opposition is fresh and in your faces.  The manger needs to explain that his rules on playing out are not set in stone, especially in that opening period. if he insists that they do it then we are going to be behind quite a lot this season in the first quarter.  Hopefully someone like lundstrum will sort that out by showing the younger players that it’s ok to take responsibility and play the situation as it exists infront of you. However, the way the experienced keeper and CB were last night, it’s likely that the coach has insisted that they do it. 
 

The last ten was dreadful as the  midfield pair tired badly.  Page is learning fast and he’ll need to cut out the dangerous short passes in our last third if we’re trying to see out a game. I think he had three intercepted in that final ten mins.  Sammy was also blowing hard and argyle were able to fashion openings through our central defensive third. always force teams to go wide. Some responsibility must also sit with Cullen who should have been helping out more effectively in that area. The coach aswell for not adjusting the shape to take account of the tiredness.  Clearly having a striker who able to take a pass and win a free kick or throw in high up the pitch will help. 
 

the result is obvs the most important aspect of the evening, we badly need some confidence and to become a team that wins the majority of its games rather than loses (which we’ve become across the last few seasons).

Just watched the highlights hoping to see a couple of good goals and a convincing performance but didn't appear to be. 

2 fortunate goals, massive deflection and horrible goal keeping for the second and then it's just Plymouth chances. 

 

However, win is a win, window closed and some decent looking signings so hopefully we can build on this first win.

Agree.  Good shot stopper but can't play with his feet.  I want a keeper to be a keeper first and foremost and i dont mind it going into row z if he has to kick

Then the highlights weren’t a fair reflection of the game. 1st half our  attacking play was fast and exciting, and we created several good chances. They were the usual workhouse league 1 crap. We nearly gifted them a couple of goals purely through our own suicidal passes at the back. Their forward left one on Jacob in the first 30 seconds.

Second half we still tried to attack and again had some flowing moves- BDCR missed another sitter. We seemed to tire last 10 , and McCarthy pulled off some cracking saves. 
Overall a good performance and a deserved win.

we was well worth the win, minus the first like 10 mins and say last 10, we could have easily been 4 up has BDR read took too fairly simple chances

The passing and movement for the 2nd was excellent. Braybrooke shot is low making it difficult for the keeper and Harry is in the right place right time. Good goal.

Pleasing yesterday. A couple of dodgy moments (can't believe some of McCarthy's passing) but we created chances, scored two and played some good attacking football. I said we need one win for it to click, and kick on, and I hope that happens now. Beat Oxford and a draw at Stockport will be a good return from three of the tougher games, including a win last night. I had belief Martin will get us there eventually so I'm still being optimistic. Up the Foxes.

Sometimes you have to think twice about even posting anything with balance on here nowadays as there are the positivity police waiting to jump on anything that is not the positive parts so glad to see there are posters who appreciate balance 👍🏻

I thought our off the ball work was brilliant last night, even BDR. Refreshing to see a team that cares.

 

I honestly think our season may have hinged on whether we kept Page or Skipp. I wonder whether Skipp getting sent off has worked in our favour.

 

I'm still really concerned by a lot of things though. We were very fortunate to go in two ahead at HT and then ended up relying on some great saves by McCarthy at the end.

I am not sure about this, I think it's more about attitude than fitness. It was as if the players thought "ah well job done, let's just cruise this last 10 mins" - there were loose passes and players just jogging around. Need to try and get that out of their systems and carry on until the final whistle.

I thought Bob the Throb worked hard, he puts a shift in and will show for the ball. His finishing is bizarre because he scored a couple of belters last season, and this season it’s like he’s playing with square toe’s boots on. He offers more than Cullen in my opinion who’s dog shit. 
 

I just hope our new defenders complete the puzzle, there’s no reason once settled why we shouldn’t start to take control of the league!

Some really nice build up play like MK Dons but actual goals to show for it. Thought the passing was a lot faster as well which was good. The biggest positive for me is the players dont constantly looked like they are fcked and leggy which has been the case for the best part of 3-4 years

The new look is slowly starting to win us over since the Ipswich game. They are a different team to watch. They seem up for it compared to early on and last season. Im not saying we will go up but i feel i can at least get behind this team again ! Thought the new centre back lining up with Souttar had another good performance !! He will be difficult to shift.

We were bossing the game until half time then Russell decided to play Burns, Cullen and move BDCR to centerforward then we were under constant pressure. 

Hes no genus or tactician.

In terms of the suicidal playing out from the back, at least with McCarthy in goal - I'm hoping that Riis will give us more of an out ball to go long a bit more and take less risks, with more chance of him holding the ball up, flicking it on or winning free kicks to get us up the pitch. Currently we don't have that physical presence to enable that....we will see

Luke Thomas could make the transition to being a defensive midfielder. In his pomp seven seasons ago he was quick, creative, eager to get forward and formed an effective link with Madders, Harvey Barnes and KDH - until Rodgers turned mardy and things began to fall apart. His lack of height and physicality wouldn't be so important in midfield. 

He's not found his level in League One - he's lost his way and found himself in League One. And despite his detractors on here, he still gets selected.

It’s important not to overlook how unbelievably shit this league is. 
 

We have far better players who are levels above everyone else but we are still guilty of over playing and thinking stuff. All we need to do is run in the general direction of the opposition and we’ll create a chance. 
 

As I’ve stated previously our biggest weakness is ourselves. We beat ourselves. We give up needless chances all for the sake of passing it to prove we can pass it.
